Nets think they can sign Deron in 2012

No matter what denial we may be in, Deron leaving us in 2012 is a very real possibility. If we don't do something to step outside the realm of "solid playoff team" and into the rarified air of "championship contender" he will leave looking for the ring and I don't blame him.

There is a little known fact that this article is talking about just this event. 5,125 years ago the Mayans knew Deron would be leaving us, and they built their vaunted calendar to count down to that year. Let's hope we can stop this prophecy from coming true by acquiring a true shot-blocking center and an elite wing. The future of the Jazz...nay the entire civilized world hinges upon our trades over the next 2 years.

I like to think that Deron would know enough about winning and playing a fun brand of basketball to avoid going to a team in the East AND a team featuring Crymelo.

No one can really blame him either, the Jazz just aren't that close. We start a 6'10" center and 6'7" PF, who get destroyed by even scrub teams with big lineups (like today). Our best swingman will need to be let go for salary reasons in a month. Our shooting guard is old and possibly the worse starter in the league at the position.

I wouldn't blame him for leaving.

I'd be tired of playing 3 on 5 every year too.
I'd love to be in a bigger market. Receive more endorsements, more attention, and perhaps even votes for the All-Star game. The NBA is a business and Utah is a tiny market compared to most of the NBA.

Anyone who knows anything about Deron and thinks he will leave us for NJ is stupid.

There are very few teams Deron would leave us to play for where he would feel like more of a "championship contender", and they don't have the money to pay him now and won't in 2012, either.

I'm not gonna say I'd put money on it, but I doubt Deron is going anywhere. You can see the bonds he has with some of our players, and how pissed he was when some of them were traded away. Players like Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony aren't like that.

Obviously only Deron knows what he is going to do in 2012, I think he knows the pros and cons of leaving, he's not stupid after all.

The Jazz have to make an effort to get better, if we're not doing that, then I wouldn't see a reason why he wouldn't leave. I don't think he will, he won't get to call the shots like he would here and I'm not sure that would be the most ideal situation for him.

If I were Deron, I would ask the Jazz front office to get better return on investment on AK and Okur's salary slots. Al Jeff, Millsap and CJ are all on reasonable deals. Now the Jazz need another max player who truly is a max player. That makes them contenders. The rest are bits and pieces they can pick up.

If I were a big-time FA and wanted to win, I'd look at the opportunity to play with Deron and Al Jeff in Utah, so I don't have to fight through Miami, Orlando and Chicago in order to get to the NBA Finals. The right player could take this current Jazz team and put them over the top in the west. The big competition will be OKC and whatever the Lakers have left. Utah is as attractive a destination as Oklahoma City, I'd like to think.

Too late for that. Jazz should have fixed AK's situation long time back. They blew it and KOC is now pushing the same BS about how AK is the X-factor for this team. You dont pay a guy 18 million to be an X-factor. You pay him that money to be THE factor night in and night out. Apparently he still does'nt get it.

Maybe the Jazz will trade one of these two by Feb, but Iam not holding my breath. The Jazz would rather stay the same and lose in the second round than make any changes and risk getting worse.

Easier said than done. Name one max player who's truly a max player who would play here, let alone is available.

Dwight Howard in 2012-13. KOC would have to work some magic, but I think it could be done. Look at what Utah has to offer Howard. A stud young core that is willing to work hard and play their roles, and an ownership/management wanting to chase championships.

D-Will, Dwight, Millsap, and CJ would only be about $46 million. That would be more than enough for the Jazz to use like the Lakers do to convince solid veterans to sign for next to nothing. "Want a championship? Come to Utah now!"

Howard knows this and should seriously entertain every offer Utah puts up if it is championship rings he really wants.
