NON-JAZZ NBA PLAYOFF thread

If you think the jazz will draw the same viewership numbers as the Lakers you're delusional. And I would love to see that article because everything the league had been putting out since covid hit was decreases in revenue generating decreases in salary cap.

Edit: here is one article showing the decrease

Edit: and here is one stating the league is targeting a 3X increase in their next deal. That's a pretty tall order when revenue overall is substantially down and viewership is down 45% per the article.

They dreaming of 3X... I have to think that the live sports being one of the few things that draws people in to watch tv in a more traditional fashion. They might get a premium for that but I doubt they get 3X.

Jokic ain't walking through that door for Memphis. The problem the Jazz has was letting the secondary player go off like that. Making Ja have to score 40 every game for Memphis to stay in the game is a valid strategy. I wouldn't throw the counter as long as the Jazz are leading wire to wire. Save it for when things get tighter.
First we don’t have a counter. We do our thing and adjust but we throw fastballs... some inside some outside but there isn’t really a breaking ball.

I think forcing Ja to score a ton might be the way to go but only if we cut off Brooks and the role players... JV is kinda tied to Ja so I lump him in with that two man game. With Brooks I’d like to see the guys play him tighter in the midrange and for Rudy to step up hard at the rim. He isn’t the passer Ja is at all... the offensive boards are the issue still but hopefully Rudy gets a couple blocks we can control... hopefully we stage a few boards.

The biggest issue I think we have is being too predictable on defense. We could even run the same scheme but having some disruptive perimeter defenders would be good. Royce is a positional defender... Mike is the best we have and is small... plus too important on offense to be too handsy and get in foul trouble.

I think we have enough to win the series... I think Grizz have benefited from a couple hot Brooks shooting games. He should give us one bad game or two... as long as we are healthy we should win even if our shooting isn’t nuclear.

I agree, bit whatever is they come up with, the Jazz being in the finals will have exactly zero impact on that number.

We could just build the wall and make them shoot over us. That is what we did with the Bucks and we were good at it. I think the Grizzlies could scheme around that with enough time, so I wouldn't roll it out immediately.

Ultimately, making Ja score 40 from midrange is a decent strategy as long as you shut everyone else down. Once we get Spida back playing 38, I don't really think it matters what they do, honestly.

I don't really care if Ja goes off every night and then proceeds to lose. If we can keep every else in check for the most part it shouldn't matter if he gets his. Just make him work.

I wouldn’t say zero but I’d say it’d have a very small effect. Like if ratings are down by 25% compared to what they would have been if the Lakers made it or if there was a sweep then it may factor in to the overall analysis. Will it be a material difference? Nah.

The difference is Rudy is the key guy guarding Giannis in that wall... so it kinda works. JV complicates things.

I think we agree as long as we shoot decently and the non-Ja guys don’t go nuclear we are fine. I’d like to see us push Ja out about 3-5 feet further on that floater. What we gave up were essentially layups... he was too deep in the paint.

If the Jazz are in the finals against anyone but the sixers or nets it will be the all-time lowest viewership of a finals ever. Even against the sixers or nets there is a good chance it gets the lowest ratings ever. Sub in the Lakers instead and it will be substantially higher.

Na'. It's not going to be a record low only because 2020's numbers were remarkably awful. The Lakers-Heat Finals averaged just 7.45 million viewers over six games. That was down from 15.14 million in 2019 (remember, tho, since the other team was Canadian, there wasn't another US market to draw from which could have boosted the ratings a bit), 17.5 million in 2018 and 20.38 million in 2017.

No way does any NBA Finals series draw as low as what they drew in the bubble. Already, NBA ratings are similar to 2019's playoff run, so, it's likely we'll see a NBA Finals between 17 and 20 million, even if it's the Jazz and Bucks.

20 then 17 then 15, then 7 in the bubble. No way it bounces back to 20. Fifteen or less is more likely.

That 15 million was because there wasn't another media market in the US to go up against Golden State (Nielsen doesn't score Canada's market), so, outside the Bay Area, it was a bunch of NBA fanatics who were watching, hence the drop in numbers. Had the Warriors played the Cavs again, and that 2.4 million drop is probably made up in Ohio alone. No way does this series score less than 15 million. Either way, it won't be a record low audience regardless. So...
