NON-JAZZ NBA PLAYOFF thread

You basically tell them not to help on defense essentially. We had that big of a lead and it was hurting us that Rudy was helping on D. You take your chances that they don’t score every possession and you know they wouldn’t have.
But quin could just say that to rudy too. Not that he or any coach in history ever would. It has never happened before that a coach has told his team to just give up layups over and over again as a strategy to win the game.
I mean we know with hindsight that strategy had a chance to work. But it would never had been implemented whether rudy, niang, favors or whoever was playing the 5 for us. And we dont even know that it would have worked. Maybe if quin told his team "hey guys, just let them get into the paint and dont help at all or anything. We want them making layups" then maybe his team would be so confused that their coach is basically telling them to give up that they quit on both sides of the ball or something. It would have to have some kind of mental effect to hear your coach whip out that strategy.

I mean you tell them to stick to their man and play as good of defense as they can straight up. You wouldn’t tell them to let them get in the paint or let them get layups.

Again though our players are used to funneling players to Rudy so it would be a tough adjustment to make. Literally anything besides telling Rudy to help may have won us the game.

Agreed. So quin should have just told Rudy not to help.
Playing niang or tucker changes nothing. The only thing that changes anything is quin changing his philosophy and telling his players not to help. Which he wouldn't do if Rudy was in the game or if Rudy was out of the game. Quin wants his players to help each other when they get beat.

Can you imagine niang being in the game instead of Rudy and PG blows by bojan and is heading for an uncontested layup and niang sees that and comes to help. PG passes to an open 3 point shooter who sinks the 3. Quin calls a timeout and tells niang not to leave his man. Niang says "but coach, PG was going to have a wide open uncontested layup" and quin says " that's ok, just let him have the wide open layup but don't leave your man open outside"

Ya I can't imagine that ever happening either.

He shot 32% from the field in this series and 24% from 3.
27% from three in the first round
He is a good defender though. That is some pretty horrible offense though. Who is he playing instead of for us?

Fish if you didn’t watch then you do t know. He made KD work for every damned inch of court space. He’s one of the main reasons they won for sure. I got tired just watching his ***. KD goes for 50 a game in the series if they don’t have Tuck.

You really had to watch... if you had watched you’d have zero questions. Tucker would have made PG cry.

KD has played a lot of playoff games against teams without tucker
Has he ever averaged 50 a game?

I did watch. Tucker played tough D. KD set an all time NBA record for scoring in a game 7.
That's the thing. Today's nba has such good offensive players plus the fact that the rules and the officiating greatly favor the offensive players that good defenders get neutered somewhat. Strictly defensive players (especially non rim protectors) with no offensive game aren't as valuable as they should be and once were. 2 way players are where it's at imo.

And there really are two sides on a basketball court. Tucker is really bad on one side of the court. And it's fine to say I know nothing about basketball or tucker or whatever. But what about nba GM's? Do they also know nothing? Was there a huge bidding war for tuckers services? Was he one of the most sought after players in NBA history? I mean he is the key to everything. He would have single handedly got the jazz to the western conference finals. A player like that must be making about what, 30 million per year or something right?

So far in these playoffs he is literally having his worst playoffs off his entire career statistically. Now these stats don't show defense and maybe he is peaking defensively at age 36. I don't know. But like I said, his man set an NBA record for scoring last night..... And then was shut down after tucker fouled out. And the game today is just extremely favorable to offensive players.

He is averaging less points with worse shooting splits, less rebounds, less assists in these playoffs than in any other playoffs in his career. Maybe he isn't totally washed (38 minutes last night is impressive) but he certainly isn't peaking either.

BECAUSE RUDY WAS GIVING THEM A WIDE OPEN THREE IN THE CORNER EVERY ****ING POSSESSION.
Okay chill... Everyone here wants to blame Rudy, which is the easy thing. But Reggie Jackson, Paul George, and Pat Beverley blew past the first line of defense every time in the 2nd half.

Our wing defenders couldn't keep them in front of them, which killed us, and put Gobert in a conundrum on every possession.

Its not usually to tend to leave shooters who teams think can't beat them. Just happened that Mann had the game of his life, and that came at the Jazz expense.

But the bigger problem was the Jazz forwards and guards not being able to keep up with the Clippers dribble penetration.

Fish... I ain’t trying to insult you. You don’t measure Tuck based off his stats... you just don’t. KD has never needed to score 50 a game so he has not tried... his usage was high after game 3... he needed to be super human every night for them to win and Tucker didn’t let him get there and made him earn it every time he did. There wasn’t a huge bidding war because GMs are dumb like us and thought he was washed because he wasn’t playing hard... if Tuck isn’t playing hard he’s garbage. He just wanted out... it’s the Blake Griffin effect.

side note it sucks that guys like Tucker and Bev can literally murder guys for 40
Minutes and get away with it. Can you imagine how quickly Royce fouls out doing that ****? It’s partly reputation and part referee intimidation. Nba officiating is a damn clown show.
