Game Thread Nov 13, 2021 03:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Heat

Added to Calendar: 11-13-21

No other city would have fans half as into the game at this point.
Most of em don’t even know what the score is - just in for the free chicken
It feels like an exact replay of the pacers game. At least, from what little I saw. I think it made it to about the 3 min mark of the 1st. That’s all I could handle.
So do you think the Heat respect us now? Cause I don’t.

“Thanks baby I needed that, call you.” Wink

Lol only rudy had more rebounds than him. Maybe u should apply for assistant coach or something i see alot potential in you
lol wut? he was 0 across the board through the first half when Miami totally owned us. He only started collecting stats during garbage minutes when he really shouldn't have been playing in the first place. Then Miami really stopped trying and allowed him to hit a couple of shots under low intensity. Just watch the game why don't you? By your standard, Westbrick is probably an elite scorer, rebounder and playmaker.

A few thoughts on the game, having been there up close:

** Mike Conley was the smallest guy on the court. He could barely get shots off even if he was open in the corner. He was also too small to have much impact defensively, as he could be nullified by one or two brush screens. It's a bit telling that he didn't finish the game.

** Royce O'Neal's offensive limitations off the dribble make it easier for defenses to recover on us. All he can do is fake passes, he's reluctant to shoot, and when he holds the ball defenders can regain their position. So against defenses that switch, it really puts us in a 4-on-5 situation.

** If Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro can come off a screen, raise up and shoot over our guards like they're barely there, just imagine what Paul George and Jamal Murray can do. We give up a lot of size at the 1, 2 and 3.

** Having a big (4 or 5) who is a triple threat like Bam really opens up the floor offensively.

** If Rudy gets moved out of drop coverage by a mobile big, Bojan gets exposed defensively.

We don't need to imagine because we saw it in action lol. FO needs to wake up and stop dropping excuses. We made a fake comeback in garbage minutes when we really should have lost this game by 20. Something has to be done.

I know Quin wants them taking quick shots but sometimes I think we would be better off running our offense and moving the ball around. Running down court and firing up a 3 with like 19 seconds left on the shot clock isn't always the best decision.

Miami is really bad fit for jazz. Also they shooting really well tonight ,that's all.It is start of season and only what's count is PO. So this means few more months of listening trading experts who's changing minds after every single game. Relax and enjoy in basketball

We need to make more shots… like a lot more

Especially when we lack the athleticism and mobility to get back on D in transition after every miss

I had DVR'd this game and planned on watching this game later tonight, but went to pick some food up and a tv had a football game on. Looked up, and the ****ing ESPN ticker gave away the result.

Now I'm kind of glad it did. Watching another carbon copy of the last Miami game would have just been grating. It sounded like another patented Jazz "let's suck hard in the 3rd quarter to have to come back in the 4th quarter" type of game that just isn't what teams that are championship level do on a regular basis. I'll wait until Gay plays and see if he's a real difference maker before I write this season off as a first round exit, but for now this team still feels like it has the fatal flaws it had last season.

We knew the size and defense issues were major problems for years, before we brought in Conley. We still brought in Conley. We knew we had no one who could hang on the perimeter or stay with the big wings, but we re-signed Conley and didn't make any moves to address this. Apparently the front office doesn't think any of this is a problem. This means we have the most likeable team who are great buddies with each other, who won't get any further than the 2nd round. I just don't see us getting though the gauntlet with exactly the same teams in the way and the exact same weaknesses.

This is exactly what I said after last game. I don’t advocate for a slow 90s strategy. But I don’t think we’re valuing possessions the way we should/used to. We used to execute an offense and pass the ball around to the open guy. Now we’re just running and chucking the first 3 we can. Often the person receiving the inbounds is the one shooting it. Doing this is not only bad offense, but it frustrates Rudy and it opens up fastbreka opportunities for the opposing team.
