Oh ok. I would be interested in the decision that the NM supreme court reaches.
To clarify, my last post was actually wrong. It started with the Human rights commission, went to a district court, and then the state appeals court. Every venue has ruled in favor of the lesbian couple.
I will have to look into this. What exactly are they arguing that I do not see? Interesting
Like in most cases, it's all about the interpretation of the law (New Mexico's Human Rights Act in this case) and what constitutes a "public accomodation". I personally don't like the decision because as you've mentioned, if the photographer doesn't want to cover a commitment ceremony or gay marriage or whatever, she shouldn't have to. The LGBT community can discourage their friends from giving their business to the photographer and/or have protests or things like that, because that's their right. The court decisions so far make it seem like business owners have zero rights.

When you really want to pass something, like a ridiculous, petty, and ultimately unenforceable anti-Big Gulp law, I really do question your motives as being noble and sincere concerns over "health care."
Outlawing x-size drink is like bringing a fly swatter to Juab County to combat the army of Mormon Crickets who have overrun farms, homes, and roads throughout the entire state.Um not gonna work...

But if we're going to outlaw big gulps in the name of health care, why not extra large pizzas? Cheese on pizza? French fries? High sodium foods? High surgery cereals?
Have you ever taken a ride in a taxi or in NY's subway? I think those forms of transportation are much more detrimental to your health than any big gulp.
In general, Americans need to eat smaller portions, eat healthier, and exercise more. So I'm not one of those folks in pitchforks telling politicians that they'll have to pry my big gulp from my stiff cold fingers. In fact, I hardly ever drink soda pop anymore. The point is, it's a LIFESTYLE that needs changing at a micro and macro level. Strictly on a macro level, governments need to provide far more services (and not necessarily in the form of punitive laws).
I'm no expert of NY politics, but I highly doubt the NY government has exhausted their resources to create a efficient and effective health care system available to everybody. Better education on diabetes, skin cancer, and heart disease. Which is exactly what this country needs more than anything right now. Fewer wars, aircraft carriers, and bases around the world and far more investment inside the empire.

Cannot buy beer above 4%abv (3.2%abw) except at the state run liquor store.
Reason, people drink x number of beers no matter what. If they had more alcohol in them the people would get more drunk.
Cannot buy wine except at the state run liquor store.
Reason, too much alcohol.
Cannot buy a keg of beer.
Reason, kegs are only used by underage kids to throw massive parties and people drink too much when they drink from a keg.
Cannot buy a 5L mini keg
Reason, it was just a nasty trick to circumvent the keg ban. If people could buy 5L of beer at one time they obviously intend to drink too much. (I'm sort of afraid to say it out loud, but have they heard of a 30pack of natural light?) Within a year of a local microbrewery investing millions in new bottling equipment our legislature rendered much of it useless.
Cannot buy mini bottles
Reason, mini bottles are used to sneak alcohol around, especially by kids, and makes it easier to hide your bottle of hooch while drinking and driving.
Cannot order a double as a shot or cocktail.
Reason, obvious attempt at drinking too much.
Bars and restaurants cannot offer drink specials or have happy hours.
Reason, it is an attempt to get people to drink too much. Also, if alcohol is cheaper people will drink more, assumption being people are going to spend everything in their pockets on as many drinks as they can buy.
Let's focus on fixing things here. Seriously.
End state run liquor stores. I don't care if they stick with a liquor store system, many states do, but let it be privately run. Let liquor stores use refrigeration, sell limes, soda, ice, bottle openers, etc. Just stop with the silly ******** that makes no sense and seems to regard the alcohol consuming public like children.
