Yes, car insurance doesn't cover gas or oil changes. But maybe that's because those things have nothing to do with insurance on your car. Since you mention it though, most policies offer discounts for having a safe driving record and for people who use car alarms.

You know, preventative stuff......like, um, contraception.

Yeah we wouldn't want anyone to be punished with a baby.

So, I did a poor job of getting you to think about the point of insurance? I guess I'll come right out with it then.
The point of insurance is to protect oneself against financial ruin from possible future outlays. Very very cheap contraception ain't exactly going to break the bank, and most women want insurance so they can have a baby.

Contraception is a very cheap form of insurance itself...if you don't want a baby...but there is no way the president has the power to force companies to provide that insurance...let alone for "free."

Of course what we call "health insurance" has really become "health maintenance"...state governments have already been dictating what these "insurance" companies have to provide (one state requires sex change operations be covered) and driving up the costs of premiums...and most insurance companies already cover birth control pills with a copay...and employers aren't required to provide insurance (except in Hawaii)
