What's new

Game Thread Oct 04, 2022 08:00PM MT: Jazz at Trail Blazers (Preseason)

Added to Calendar: 10-04-22

We're going to need more Beverley for THT type trades to pull this stuff off. What teams could use Mike that could give us nothing but salary in return?
We need to do those deals but also maybe get something useful and make it expiring salary though… that’s the biggest WTF with the THT trade

I have a feeling the Bulls could potentially be a surprise team that tanks at the deadline. Ball would be a good target as they could sit him the entire season however Bulls have looked pretty bad since Lonzo's injury last season. Wouldn't be shocked if they ended up trading someone like Derozan and/or Vuc once the calendar hits 2023.
Nah… they don’t own their own pick… it’s too 4 protected but a late tank ends with them at #9/10 and almost no shot at keeping the pick.

You are never getting Lonzo Ball for Mike Conley.

You have to attach a pick. It's non-negotiable.

i'm disappointed in Hardy so far being unwilling to sit the veterans asses down and get the young guys a lot more run. this needs to happen in the regular season, but at the very least get them some solid minutes in the pre-season - that's easy.
He's acting like a first time coach trying to get meaningless preseason wins!

I do see the veteran coaches like Pop don't give a crap about preseason and play alot more of the rooks and fringe guys.

The tank team to watch is Charlotte. I think they could end up being awful… unless they get really good health luck.

He's a first time coach trying to install offensive/defensive principles for the first time in his career.

Veteran coaches dont have to practice this kind of stuff to the degree that a 34 year old rookie does. It's common sense.

Ah ok forgot about that. That Vuc trade was so bad. They better start tanking immediately to get a bottom 4 record!
Scoot Henderson has a bit of 2008 Derrick Rose to his game with maybe a sprinkle of 2012 Kyrie?

A team like the Lakers picked a really good time to be shopping for contributors as there will likely be alot of selling between now and the deadline.

The trade I could see is the Russ trade… but in this version it’s JC, Mike, Gay for Russ and some seconds. Clears the cap for next year a bit more. Lakers keep their pick but can make a more honest attempt at being a solid playoff team. The thing the Lakers are overlooking with all the cap space talk is that they could likely do much better using expiring salaries next year with their picks. FA isn’t going to produce the amazing results they hope and even if they sign a Turner then they won’t be retaining any guys from this years squad outside of AD and Lebron and they won’t have any salary to attach to their firsts to get the all star. They won’t get Wiggins or any restricted FAs the best they could hope for is Kyrie taking a lower than max deal. Even with Ky they could offer more money in a sign and trade and the nets would likely love to get something back.

TLDR - the lakers have no effing idea what they are doing

Yup, that would be a good trade.

Like I said a month or two ago, Russ has a lot of value as an expiring contract. You could also replace Gay w/ KO to make the deal sweeter and make the Jazz worse.

Yes and Indiana too after they deal Turner.
They are already in their imo… even with Turner who is rarely healthy… the rest of their team is rough. Tyrese is good but he’s a guy that is likely a #2/3 that is an amazing co star… kinda like Khris Middleton (not a comp at all). Mathurin might be okay… Duarte and Hield is solid… then it’s like McConnell… Jalen Smith? brissett is okayish… I think they will be every bit as horrible as us for sure.
