I made the mistake of hopping over to r/nba to check out the post game comments- what a nightmare. Those cats do not know ball.

Really makes me appreciate this place.
I love reddit and use it for research purposes frequently but I have never been there for anything sports related. Thanks for the heads up

I thought this was a great example of Keyonte's improved maturity. He had some really bad mistakes early in the game, but was able to not spiral out of control and play winning basketball in the 4th quarter. I was concerned he would have a bad game against the type of defense that Portland plays, but he was able to figure out how to counter their aggression and get to the line by the end of the game.

It's interesting that Kyle Anderson is not getting any minutes. I thought he had a chance to be in the starting lineup and it appears he's below Harkless and Cody in the rotation.

Shootings not great but 29 points on 14 shots is outstanding. His ability to get to the line is elite. How’s he looked so far? The Jazz media pushing the “he’s matured” narrative in a united front has me skeptical but his numbers do look better.
Mostly he has looked fantastic.
Despite his pretty good stats last night I would say last night was his worst game. Made some of his old defensive lapses and had multiple really bad decisions and horrendous passes last night.

Overall he has been great and even last night he was ok. I have been saying, and still believe, he is going to have a breakout season. Which is good but he is gonna hurt the tank and be expensive on his next contract.

Don't want to take away from Key and his performance but it's misleading to say 29 points on 14 shots, the free throws also use possessions. 15 FTs is ~7 shots. 29 points on 21 possessions is still great but a bit more informative.
Fair

Keyonte's EFG% was only 50%, but his TS% was 70.4%
Which of those stats do you like better? Which is more impactful/meaningful?
I have no idea which one is more important.

? He was definitely a positive and did better than any other non Harkless Jazz player at guarding on ball.

I don't know if Cody will be as good of a tank commander this year, especially if he's playing in a lineup where he just has to focus on playing defense and making a quick decision to shoot/pass/drive on offense.

TS% accounts for FTs where EFG% doesn't. So TS% is probably better/more comprehensive of how efficiently someone is scoring.

Traditionally it's easier for me to think about efg% because I know that above 50% is ok, and that's an easy number to remember. League average TS% is like 55-60% and a more difficult number for me to remember so I have a more difficult time with that stat.

Harkless brought them back.

Hardy putting Harkless and Cody on the floor on both the late inbounds... well, that was weird. It's pretty tough to get the ball to Lauri (or to anyone where the Blazers don't have a chance to foul immediately) if two of the players on the court are non-shooters.

Yeah, curious to not have Brice or Svi, but I suppose it was supposed to be a reward for bringing us back in to the game.

I believe in his ability to drive the tank. Put him out there with the starters.
