What's new

Game Thread Oct 31, 2025 08:00PM MT: Utah Jazz @ Phoenix Suns

Cody needs to get his 3pt percentage into the 34% or 35% range and limit his possessions to no more than 2 or 3 dribbles and I think he's playable. He's moving well defensively, not getting faked off his feet, and staying in his lane on offense.

My problem with Svi is that he can be erratic, like no one knows what he's going to do sometimes, including Svi.

Just finished the game. Flip shouldn't be starting. He needs to come off the bench.
Sensibaugh and Walt aren't playing well together. I wish Bryce was better defensively, he could be starting.
Ace is looking lost, Cody looks kinda ok.
Collier would really help the 2nd unit.

I'm embarrassed for feeling pretty good about this team over the last couple of weeks. New faces, same old BS.

We don't have the heart, will or brains to defend. Every rotation is ****ed up, every steady 3pt shooter left alone, and our rim protecting, bag-seeking center suddenly plays softer than a pile of wet toilet paper.

Speaking of Kessler – does he have a medical condition that prevents him from holding on to the ball? I mean it's getting ridiculous. Walker seems to have the same amount of grip strength as my mom, and my mom can definitely GRIP when the situation calls for it. No rebound Kessler gets is safe until it's in the hands of some other Jazz player.

Ace is two years away from being two years away as a serious NBA offensive option. He looks rushed, gets tunnel vision, doesn't trust his dribble, and keeps forcing stuff up from midrange. A true project who needs a LOT of work. It's painful to see how well some of the kids drafted after him are doing (to say nothing of the top 4). This was one pick that the Jazz couldn't afford to **** up, and the jury's still out.

I wonder what has happened to the big-to-big passing that was great in the first few games of this season? It feels like the great chemistry between Walker, Lauri and Flip has sort of disappeared... but I'm not really able to pinpoint whether its movement, vision or decission making that has gone worse... or have our opponents started to defend that area better.

I'm not done.

Forcing Kessler to defend PnR's far from the basket is his kryptonite (and that's why every team is doing it). It's year 4 and he still isn't close to being able to recover back to the paint in time. Just doesn't have the body for moving like that. When Walker finds himself on the perimeter, it's over.

I seem to have overreacted to Walt looking momentarily decent. He's been *** since then. The constant freelancing (I'm using the nicest word I could think of) in team defense is probably making Hardy crazy. WCJ is like Kris Dunn without the steals or ability to bother ballhandlers. For a four year college player, WCJ's terrible awareness guarding the perimeter is really troubling. He looked relaxed at first, now he just looks lackadaisical. And he's not in a position to look lackadaisical. Wouldn't be shocked to find him in the doghouse soon.

Keyonte still can't / won't navigate screens properly at the point of attack. It's like he uses the presence of a screener as an excuse to quit on the play and make a big show of getting "stuck" while his guy is somewhere diving to the basket. It's really disappointing after he clearly improved his body.
