** OFFICIAL ** Game Thread Creator Sign-Up!

wow, way too many rules already. What is Americans fascination with bureaucracy?
I feel like you're just being a smart ***, but just in case, what rules do you think are getting in the way?

I don't want this to be complex. It's a basic idea about signing up to make a game thread. I've seen many times that a game thread goes up and one of the first posts is from someone saying they were working on an awesome game thread but now it's too late.

I was just looking to make sure posters had the freedom to be creative and make a good game thread without worrying that either they would be stepping on anyone else's toes our that someone would step on theirs.

The basic components of a game thread shouldn't get in the way of anyone's creativity and it isn't like there will be any real enforcement of game thread standards anyway.

But, that said, a game thread should have some basic stuff like who we're playing, when the game starts, if there is tv coverage... it should also look good and include some pics. These threads are a representation of this online community. They should involve a little thought and effort.

[sarcasm]I blame HOA's and public schools. People get used to relying on rules, it gives them a false sense of security.

oops, look at the time, I gotta go meet Dutch for a beer now. [/sarcasm]

[serious]The process of making rules is very interesting. What seems low impact, simple and straight forward to you, looks very different to others. And the outcome you envision, will be far from what is delivered. Someone will find a vague phrase, a misplaced word, or something you never considered, then exploit it. It will probably result in an argument, or at least a good discussion. Then the rules will be amended. About then someone is going to ask "Why does Gameface get to decide the rules?"

I'm not opposed nor supportive of the idea, I just find the process fascinating.[/serious]

Considering all the rules discussion we should rule this thread be called the *Official* Thread about the rules to make a game thread. Can we get a board of directors signed up who will rule on disputes over game threads given that the regular board of directors (moderators, they are called here) are too busy evaluating the rules on appropriate levels of behavior?

However the regulations are regulated, i'm a supporter of efforts to make good game threads. And I support fan pledges of happiness as well.

There are no rules. If you win, you make another one. If you lose, you don't. Do what you want. If you dont like the game thread, feel free to make one of your own if you think you can do better. If it's truly better, the mods can always merge the two and have the best one as the first post.

I wasn't trying to lay down the law. I was suggesting what I thought should be the basic guidelines. So far no one else has jumped into what I had hopped would be a conversation.

I have no desire to be the gatekeeper here. I was going to list the games in the OP and then when someone says they want to make a game thread I was going to edit the OP by putting their name next to the game they wanted to make a game thread for. There would be no enforcement of the guidelines. People usually let ****ty game thread creators know that they don't like their game threads. I figured it would work itself out.

I'm not in charge of this. I just thought it was a good idea so I started a thread where I said, "hey guys, I think this would be a good idea." And that's where we're at.

When stuff gets merged the earliest posts are on top. The person who made the first "game thread" will have their post at the top.

I was really hoping to have a dialogue as to how it would work and I was really really hoping management would say that they would sticky game threads made by the people who signed up ahead of time. But there hasn't been much of a dialogue and management hasn't endorsed this idea, so as far as I'm concerned it isn't actually happening. If it does it'll be because someone else picks it up. I'm kind of seeing how much of a pain in the *** it was going to be.

The OP has been updated with about half the season.

If you want to sign up for a particular game just post here saying what game you want. If it's not taken your name will be added to the OP next to that game.

Sign up for one game at a time.

This is not really an **official** sign-up thread. Terms are non-binding. If someone who hasn't signed up makes a game before the person who signed up it is likely that the first thread created will become the stickied game thread. That's up to the mods.

Suggested game thread content is just that, a suggestion. This thread is a simple game thread sign up thread. There is no game thread committee that will enforce game thread standards. There is no gatekeeper that decides who is worthy of creating game threads. Consider this thread a gentleman's agreement to respect the person who called dibs on a particular game. That's it.

The fact that you have to explain what this is all about lol
It's pretty straight forward imo.

NO. The mods should lock the ****ty game thread only to reopen it a few days later so we can shame the ****ty game thread makerer.

Game on saturday, back to back for the Jazz.

Gameface this is a good idea, and you've put a ton of thought into it.

Sign me up for the Indiana game just because I like you. I'll do it late Saturday night here in Japan (should be early Saturday morning over there). No promises for a legendary thread (I am not MK11 sadly)

PS-- for those wondering, MK11 left for military service. I wss talking to him about it right before he left years ago. Hopefully he's still alive, and will re-join this forum some day.

ECTYA's threads were good too. Those dang Turks.
