So I'm not very happy with Gobert this season. Sure he still affects the game on the defensive end, but he's nothing like last year. Most notably, he doesn't play with nearly as much energy and attitude. He used to go after every play. He wanted to block every shot. This year, he doesn't close out all the way on help D, instead, the shooter always has like 4 feet to comfortably get a shot off. when he makes a defensive play, he doesn't get back into the action. Instead, he keeps his arms up in the "not a foul" gesture, and keeps his back to the action, assuming something/someone else will take care of it. Same thing on offensive end. He goes for the rebound with little energy, tries to give it a tap, then gives up on the play. Last year, he had multiple 20+ rbs games, because he would keep tipping the ball over and over and over, while the opponent desperately tries to beat him for the rebound.
This is the biggest disappointment of the season. A player who looked like he might be talked about in the conversation of "best defender ever" turning into a "pretty good defender".
I hope he turns it around.
