While it would be nice to have the W, this is just another non-conference game vs. another non-conference, non-bcs opponent. I for one hope this matchup dies off as a yearly meeting. Every once in a while would be ok.

Wow, didn't take you long to turn into a BCS snob... :D

Honestly, how much does anyone care right now? BYU's going to the Armed Forces bowl if they go bowling at all, and Utah is playing in a different conference.

As a fan, I don't want to see the rivalry die. It isn't as important in the grand scheme of things anymore (for either team), but I think the rivalry transcends that.

To a degree, yes, you're right. But things that matter ultimately and eventually will trump things that don't. If these guys aren't playing rivalry week in the same conference, this falls into the "things that don't" category, unfortunately.

This makes sense. *sigh*

I think BYU was the better team last year and let one get away. I think BYU has improved since that game and Utah has stayed the same. I would pick BYU to win if forced, but who knows. Utah did win last year so who knows.

I think Utah is better across the board except at QB. And Jake Heaps hasn't looked all that great either. I don't see how anyone can pick against Utah in this game. Wynn sucks, but the receivers are so good they almost make up for it. Utah's D was good enough to keep Barkley and USC's offense in check, so I am confident Heaps and BYU's offense will be held in check.

I don't see how anyone wouldn't fly this plane. The engine sucks, cuts out a lot and is hard to start, but the wings are so good they almost make up for it.

The QB is key. And if BYU doesn't have to cover beyond 15 yards, even their secondary is gonna shine.

Lets not make it out to be more than it is. Wynn sucks, but he can throw the ball 15 yards. BYU still has to cover it. Like I said, Wynn sucks, but the receivers are almost good enough to make up for it. Wynn will loft a high floating, slow to arrive, totally inaccurate pass 25 yards down the field, and the athletic and fast receivers will get to it.

Wynn is pretty important, no doubt. But he is not as important as a plane engine, that is a bad analogy. A plane isn't going anywhere without an engine. A better analogy is your For Bronco with a 351 has a bigger, more powerful engine than my Mustang. But my transmission is geared for speed, and body is lighter, among other things, that make my Mustang a lot faster than your Bronco.

The Utes still have a pretty decent running game and some awesome receivers that make even a crappy QB like Wynn put up some decent numbers against a very good USC defense. We all know Wynn looked a whole lot worse than his numbers would indicate in that game. So the receivers must be making him look better than he really is. Really though, if you have seen the Utes play then you already know the receivers are top notch but the QB is horrible.

Plus, like I said, Jake Heaps hasn't exactly been all world either. He's been better than Wynn, no doubt, but he doesn't have receivers that are even close to the caliber of receivers the Utes have. And the Utes defense is better than BYU's, so that will make it even harder for Heaps.

I can't see how anyone disagrees with any of this. But I am open to take anyone's money who wants to disagree with their wallet.

If his range were the only question, I wouldn't be nearly so nervous. Wynn has shown a propensity for panicking early in a play. He makes poor decisions under pressure. And to top it off, our O line is not reliable. This is a bad recipe.

I agree that Heaps has not exactly set college football on fire. But he is a good player, and has the potential to just go bananas.

BYU has it's weaknesses, for sure, but I feel like it's going to come down which QB can get it done. Utah MUST pressure Heaps. We have a strong front D7. We need to make Heaps sweat and eat turf early and often.

Even accomplishing that, it merely gives Wynn a chance. He has to step up. And so far, I haven't seen anything that makes me believe he will.

Edit: All that being said, I am not betting against the Utes. They can win. I'm just nervous...
