What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

From Realgm...

Lakers want to interview George Karl, Jeff Van Gundy, Byron Scott and Kurt Rambis for their head coaching vacancy.

The Lakers appear to not be in a rush in replacing Mike D'Antoni.

John Calipari and Kevin Ollie will also receive interest from the Lakers."

The Jazz are still having internal meetings on what "type" of coach they want. Holy crap, get off the stick and start interviewing some dudes. I seriously think we have analysis paralysis inside the Jazz organization. Get on the horn and tell Messina we want him when his league is over with...
You can never rely on anything that is from "Realgm."

The Jazz are either sending out a smokescreen or there is a fight going on between Lindsey and the KOC/Miller team. Lindsey knows EXACTLY what he wants to do with this team. He's had a plan since he took over.

As it says in the last paragraph of the article, Messina would only do that if he doesn't get a head coaching offer.
Would be a great outcome for Messina. I imagine Popovich is getting very close to hanging them up for good. Bring Messina over, give him 1 or 2 years as the lead assistant and then have Popovich either take a front office job or retire (depending on what he wants to do) and Messina takes over.

Age problem

"But the surprises do not end there for the Italian coach of 54 years."

Dude's been coaching for half a century. Must be older than Sloan. No way he conforms to DL's moneyball

It's clear the Jazz are just waiting for the Spurs' playoff run to come to an end so they can hire Boylen.

Question: Has he been coaching for 54 years or is he 54 years old?

Answer: Messina may have been born to coach, but he wasn't born coaching. Another case where translation has tricked someone up. His age is 54, which means he has 24 years of professional experience, beginning in 1989 with Virtus Bologna.

And coach who? I know everyone's been writing the epitaph for the Spurs for years, but when Pop is gone Duncan probably is too. And possibly Ginobli (who has very noticeably regressed in recent years). So, a 35+ year old Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, and a bunch of rotation players?

SA could go pick 5 guys off the street and have them turn out to be solid players. No one scouts better than SA. They'll reload.

They can do that because they have a core in place. When the core is gone, those plug in and play players lose effectiveness.

They scout good rotation players, there is no replacing Parker or Duncan.

Once those two leave, they'll have cap space for two MAX players. SA and Pops are well-respected around the league. I'll bet they can find great players to play for them on the FA market. If Sterling fights the sale of the team, maybe they go after CP3 and Griffin as replacements. No one is going to want to play or work for the Clippers with Donald still around.

Warriors management has come up with a hypothetical short list, which is led, I’ve heard by Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg and broadcaster Steve Kerr. All of this will come to a head soon, and it will be decided by Joe Lacob, in the end. San Jose Mercury-News

I think you are oversimplifying the situation.

Pop is a great coach, but make no mistake about it, he is the beneficiary of having great players to work with.

It wont be thay easy to reload the Spurs roster.

Um... what didn't you understand about "space for two max players"? They could re-load fairly quickly. But, Pop still may not want to wait.
