What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

Big blow up in Memphis right now. Dave Joerger might be released from his duties.

He seems an interesting possibility should that happen.

Just got off the phone with Chris Wallace. Quick report coming soon, but Dave Joerger is and will remain the coach.

Apparently the coach is safe. Chris Wallace is the old/new GM that is now back in control.

Take it for what it's worth (I haven't been too impressed with Sheridan's accuracy since he struck out on his own), but Chris Sheridan reporting that he's heard that the Jazz have some interest in Blatt. Sheridan also pushing for the Knicks to get interested in Blatt.

Maybe Messina wanted SVG-type money?

Knicks are holding out for Fisher. I could see that move work out for both of them. Fisher's daughter would FINALLY be closer to her doctor.

well, i always knew that the universe will find a way to justify why i'm still a jazz fan

I will say they are aligned, you will say there is a great conspiracy. I think I am a bit more reasonable.

Yes, based on the hypothetical response you made up for me, you would be (hypothetically) more reasonable.

Only problem is that I disagree with your hypothetical response.

So go argue with yourself.....

ESPN is quoting "sources." As we know, sometimes "sources" allegedly hear things in Best Buy parking lots and aren't too reliable or accurate. Also the quote says they're reaching out to gauge his interest in moving into coaching. That could as easily be an assistant assigned to work with the guards as it could be the head coach.

"Sources told ESPN.com that Jazz officials intend to at least pose the question to the Hall of Fame guard about his willingness to move into coaching, while mindful of Stockton's lack of previous coaching experience and the fact that he has long loathed the sort of spotlight associated with the job."

Now I'm not denying that they could have very well talked to him about the head coaching job. They may have even said they'd talk to Jerry or Phil about being an assistant in much the same way that Watson said Hubie Brown would help him out. Point is, we just don't know.

Not likely, imo. The biggest salary of a coach in Europe is of Obradovic which is pretty modest at $1.85M, comparing the SVG's new mini fortune. Messina's $1M per year is even more so. I believe any deal that Messina or Blatt will get in the NBA will be a huge upgrade to their current salaries.

I will be really happy if either of Messina and Blatt comes to the Jazz. This late triumph of Blatt will be HUGE for him though. I won't be surprised if he becomes the first Euro coach in the NBA before Messina. His stock will rise tremendously. And he has one big advantage over Messina that Messina can never have. He's American! Well at least half but that will be enough for the American media to be all over him. I hope that interest brings him to the Jazz (of course my first preference is Messina).

Grizzlies would have beaten OKC had they stuck with Hollins for continuity during this season IMO....

Still dunno why nobody is mentioning him. He is SOLID.
