Euroleague is the tournament that the only best teams from each domestic leagues participate. Euroleague Final Four has the death match system. Four teams left, no series will be played, four games will be played totally. It's CSKA vs Macabi and Madrid vs Barcelona on Friday and on Sunday it will be, loser vs loser and winner vs winner. The final winner takes it all.

Similar to the Euroleage, there is Eurocup league which one level lower and features the best teams that couldn't qualify to the Euroleague from every domestic leagues. And again similarly, there is EuroChallenge Cup that is the third tier of the inter-european competition. It includes the best teams that couldn't qualify for neither Euroleague or Eurocup.

Domestic leagues are well obviously domestic. Like Spanish league(aka ACB), Greek league, Turkish league etc.

VTB League was once a united league for some Eastern Europe countries but now is integrated with Russian domestic league so it is now the domestic league of Russia.
 
^^^^. I like the loser versus loser game. I wish the nba would play some loser games during the conferee finals and nba finals. The break between games is excruciating.


I was thinking about possible reasons why the jazz would be waiting to hire a new coach.

Many others have mentioned that the coach is still coaching (Messina, Boylen)
Some have suggested the Jazz have to wait for LAL and NYK to hire before they get a chance.

I guess they are both plausible.

Randy Rigby and Dennis Lindsey have mentioned another possibility. Recently of on 1280 they both have said they are working as an organization to redefine roles and responsibilities of the head coach and others. This makes a lot of sense to me. When an organization has a powerful person like Jerry in place for a long time the organization shapes itself around him. Ty Corbin never had a chance, because the Jazz never had a chance to reorganize to live without Jerry and maybe even Larry.

I would like to propose another theory. Perhaps the Jazz are waiting until after they make their offseason moves, because they are going to remake the roster. That means trading away players that maybe were young and have potential, and maybe even players the fans and teammates like. The jazz want to wait so that Lindsey gets to make the decisions and gets to live with the credit or blame, leaving the new coach free to start with a clean slate. This would suggest to me the moves won't be painless and the new coach is not an experienced man, who needs protection.

AS to the first theory, I think the Jazz are well into the era when the GM/coach roles are completely separate. I doubt Ty ever had an ounce of power...input, yes, but certainly not the final authority on personnel matters. And the Jazz are even further past the death of Larry H. That said, they have had several people move on/retire, so it could be a re-org of the entire Miller sports division.

I think you might be on to something with your last theory. Dennis WON the rebuild argument. He WON the battle to let Ty go. He has a VISION and a plan. He likely wants to carry it out to the finish so he can be judged accordingly. The less interference, the better. However, I doubt Lindsey wants to wait until the actual draft. It's important to have the new staff be in place for summer league. I think he's just waiting for the playoffs to end so he can interview current assistants. Unfortunately, unless that means EuroLeague, all indications point to Boylen.
 
Again, I'll say this, if Boylen is able to help this Spurs team with a Championship with the cast that they have, ageing stars, etc, I think he is worth a look.

He's won championships in Italy, Spain and Russia and is, without question, one of the brightest basketball minds on the planet. The only reason he's not a household name in the NBA is because just about all of his work has taken place on the other side of the world.

Messina currently coaches CSKA Moscow, but he'd be the ideal candidate to lead the up-and-coming Utah Jazz.

A strict disciplinarian who focuses on the details, he'd fit in perfectly with Utah's young roster. There's talent on the Jazz, and they need someone who'll make sure it develops properly.

Even Messina's supposed "shortcomings" should appeal to Utah fans.

Perfect! Know who else had that reputation?

Some guy named Jerry Sloan, who did pretty well for himself in Utah, a place where a steady hand and attention to detail have long history of success.

The Jazz need to make this one happen.

That approach likely wouldn't work on a team with established stars, but Utah doesn't have that problem. I don't see any personalities on the team that wouldn't work with a disciplinarian in charge. And if 1 or 2 decided they didn't like Messina's approach of making players work hard in practice and earn their playing time, then ship them out. This hire HAS to happen. At this point, I'm likely going to be disappointed with anyone else. And I'll be LIVID if the choice is Boylen. Being the #1 asst on Pop's bench doesn't automatically make you a good candidate, especially after a BIG failure in the very state you'd return to. Hire Boylen and Lindsey will have a HUGE PR nightmare on his hands, even with the powderpuff beat reporters and "yes men" who cover the Jazz.

It has to be Messina. And I'm sure if DL has the final say, it IS Messina. It is the move that makes the most sense, and that is pretty much DL's MO.
