Punch Bowl Re-Filler
Rep to anyone who can send me a good picture of Messina with a halo over his head. Want to use it as my avatar.
Have:
Messina - HC
Messina's #1 guy - lead assistant
Stockton - assistant coach
Jensen - assistant coach
With the Jazz now contacting Stockton its going to be a huge disappointment if he is not hired.

Pretty sure stock knew all about how stats affected the game when he played, as he would adjust lots of things based on what the team needed in the way of stats. I bet he could have scored a bunch of points, but he knew his team would benefit from his playmaking more. That kind of stuff was the advanced stats in his day, and I would have to think he would be open to it today as well.
I want Messina over Stockton. Stockton is a legend and my all time favorite player. Love him. Having said that he has no real world coaching experience. I don't want a gamble right now on the new head coach. Messina has the pedigree and is a winner. Bring Stockton in sure, I'd love for him to be an assistant, but don't give him the reigns. Have him under Messina for 10 years then have him replace Messina.

I see what you are saying and you do have apoint. However kowledge of a subject does not always carry over ot being able to teach and guide it.
I still say bring in Stockton as an assistant and let him get used to coaching before we just jump in with both feet.

Stockton's body of work strongly suggests that he has this ability. The Jazz obviously think he's got it, or they wouldn't be reaching out (and they have ****loads more information than we do).
^by the way, this is an excellent example of the yarns you can spin.
Step 1: push my point to its extreme edge ["always"].
Step 2: overlook the things that are inconvenient to what you want to say [Does Messina have what it takes to communicate with American players?]
Step 3: under-sale the things that are inconvenient to what you want to say [Stockton isn't a teacher, right?!?!?!]
Step 4: insert a bizarrely mature-sounding conclusion about the skills of two people [Messina and Stockton].
