Kerr going to GS is becoming official now....

I truly hope that becomes a failed experiment seeing as we're holding their future draft pick.

2017 season is when we need the Curry ankle injury, that class is gonna be better than this one.

I wonder what the Knicks are gonna do now...

Kerr really milked that out, kind of a douche move too.

Not really. He had two employers who wanted his service. Why not set up a bidding war? All of us would do the same thing. He likely got more money guaranteed from GS. I'll bet it took a lot to say no to his best buddy, Phil. Wonder if this puts an end to their dinners together.

The Spurs are not on the cutting edge of analytics. They are leading the change, my friend. They are not managing/ coaching by the old rules of instinct/ gut/ experience. They are playing the numbers in personnel, strategy and tactics.

IS there an assumption that john would not use analytics? That he wouldn't have a qualified staff of assistants crunching numbers? I don't think anyone that we brought on would get away with not embracing analytics under DL. This is not what I was referring to anyway. I was referring to a style of play that is often berated as old fashioned when it is not. example: The pick and roll has become more important in the NBA.(largely because the numbers prove what many have known all along)

First, any choice is a gamble. If you think Stockton is a "sure thing" you are certainly overconfident in your ability to predict the future.

Second, read the last few chapters of Stockton's book and see if you change your opinion. He admits to his inability to lead the young players on the team as it fragmented in his last few years. It was a very honest, authentic and grounded self-reflection which rang true to me. He did a lot of reflecting on the "good old days" of the NBA. Stockton would be miserable not being able to get out of the spotlight. He is very introverted and would not be sustainably fulfilled as an NBA coach. And he knows it, so I doubt very much if he would consider an NBA HC job. I see him as an assistant or as a college HC (If Gonzaga's coach were younger, he could be stepping in).

First I never said "sure thing". The comment was made that stock was a gamble. The implication being that other choices are not. I did not think it was necessary to say, Stockton is not a bigger gamble than other head coaching candidates. I hope that clarifies for you my position.

Second the idea that he would be "miserable" is over blown imo. We are talking about a guy that was on the ****ing dream team. I'm sure that being the HC of the Jazz would not even compare. Like I said earlier I think the question is would he like to coach not would he be a good one.

A little slower, please ..... I purty stupid compeared to you

Now that that is established...my point is that john wouldn't drive the team into the ground. If he wasn't successful, out of sheer loyalty to the millers, he wouldn't continue to coach. You wouldn't have to fire him. Play with semantics all you want, but he wouldn't continue to coach if he sucked at it.
Would he take another job within the organization? Well, if one was offered to him, and if he felt he could help the organization in that role, then sure...he might do that.
But....that is a bit of a hypothetical from the original thought.

Like Stockton but don't see him wanting a NBA HC job.
He has lived in Spokane ever since he retired and done very little NBA related activity.
The Jazz job offer if legit could be merely a courtesy offer.
A gesture of deep respect for what he has meant to Jazz.
He has everything to lose if he fails.
He just does not seem like a risk taker.

Well I mainly mean that it was said that they were close to coming to agreement and then Kerr just was like nope I'm the warriors coach now.
