Official NJ Nets Watch

I watched some of it; I thought they were gonna get blown away early, but then after watching some Jazz, I noted Pistons had closed the gap, then later they were in the lead. Yeah; go Pistons!!!

I think there is a good chance the Nets and Pistons will tie for the 6th worst record. As we know from last year, the lottery odds for 6 and 7 are then pooled together and split evenly to both teams. The normal draft order between them is determined randomly (we of course lost last year). Here are remaining schedule strengths

Nets
vs + .500 teams: 4
vs - .500 teams: 6
home games: 5
road games: 5

Pistons
vs + .500 teams: 3
vs - .500 teams: 6
home games: 4
road games: 5

So wait, with basically the same schedule, save Detroit not having a home game against a +.500 team, you think the Nets will gain 2 1/2 games? Say the Pistons finish 3-6. Nets would have to go 6-4 to tie.

Don't look now, but Sacramento is only three games behind (ahead?) of the Nets. Toronto is 3 1/2.

EDIT:

And to use the same formula.

KINGS
vs + .500 teams: 8
vs - .500 teams: 2
home games: 5
road games: 5

RAPTORS
vs + .500 teams: 4
vs - .500 teams: 5
home games: 5
road games: 4

Darkwing, you have to account for the tank factor, which is always very high the last two weeks. The Nets have nothing to tank for, and Detroit does. The Nets also play the Pistons in the last to weeks, which I expect the Pistons to lose.

Kuester is coaching for his life right now and they have enough veterans that have no interest in waiting around to be good that I don't think Detroit has much of atank factor, if any. In fact, they seem to be playing better down the stretch than they have the rest of the year.

This is the only tank I know. Crack a Beer!

Detroit has guys playing for starting jobs, new contracts, hell even playing to stay in the league. They're not consciously tanking and won't.

It's still a long shot for one of these teams to leapfrog the Jazz, but any Jazz win makes it even harder.

Whatever. If they win good for the players, if they lose good for us fans in the coming years.

Go KINGS!
I guess I'll be rooting for Sacramento to win over the Jazz if they're close to catching NJ.

Too bad about Gaines - with Williams out, that's a huge loss for the Nets. Now they have Farmar and then just Uzoh as the backup PG. Good for our pick, but hated to hear Sundiata got hurt. Tough break...literally!
Getting the #6 and #12 picks seems pretty likely, although I still think NJ has the talent to catch Detroit. The players aren't going to play hard for Kuester; they want him out. And Phoenix has been terrible of late, with a murderous schedule down the stretch. Jazz could still finish ahead of the Suns.

Boy, what a disgusting time to be a Jazz fan. I'm so deflated from everything this year that I find myself pretty much numb to the fact that they can't seem to figure out how to win.

It pains me to say this but, Go ping pong ball race!
