What's new

***Official Ping Pong Day Thread - Tuesday - May 20th - 8 PM ET - ESPN***

Next year will have to be our tank year.

I say give up Hayward. Keep the salary cap clear. Tank the hell out of next year. Win less than 10 games. Trade assets. Guarantee ourselves a franchise player in next years draft

I'm tired of drafting nice pieces. Smart, Vonleh, Randle, Gordon, can't even start over the garbage we already have. They make little to no difference next. Nice players, but not franchise players.

If we want to build a culture of losing, then we need to maintain what we have been the past few years.... Too good to get a high draft pick. Not good enough to make the playoffs.

Well if we tank this year the same thing could happen. Hopefully, the Jazz get a player and he turns out better than expected. Maybe Orlando takes Smart over Exum and the Jazz end up with Exum or we select Vonleh and he is better than people expect. I am not shocked or surprised the Jazz got the 5th pick but it could be worse, we could have ended up like Boston. I personally think the Lottery has to go.

If a Franchise has 4 consecutive years in the lottery their pick is automatically at the end of the lottery or 14th pick, after eight years the franchise loses it pick. Just use the regular season records to determine draft order. Teams will have just as much incentive to win as they do and even more if you start penalizing them for being in the lottery range.

To Cavs: #5, #23, 2017 GS first round pick, Kanter.

To Jazz: #1 pick, other stuff...

Cavs get a young big with potential and another strong player at #5, have more picks for future deals.

Jazz get #1 pick to build around.

I think it sounds pretty fair.

That is way too much to give up. I know everyone is disappointed right now but don't lose your heads.

I'm serious.

CLE should lose their franchise.

The team sucks.
The ownership sucks.
They have made a mockery of the draft system.
There are better pro-NBA cities that will be, at least, less embarrassment.

Move them to Seattle.

I know we're angry we didn't land a top-3. But let's look at it this way - Parker doesn't play good defense, Embiid has the back of an old man, and Wiggins has the tenacity of Marvin Williams.

Plus we save some money drafting at 5 (a somewhat weak yet valid argument).

I wish we could draft Vonleh at PF. We can move Kanter or have him come off the bench.

Thanks for this....... but still

What a ****ty turn of events. The ONLY franchise changing players in this draft will be Parker, Wiggins, and Emblid. Last season was the best (and only) chance of tanking to get a franchise changing player to resurrect Jazz basketball. This next season is when we hire a real head coach, and play to win. Getting a #5 pick not only solidifies us as a mediocre treadmill team at best, but also reflects the complete failure of how to tank. ****

Look I wish we had traded Marvin early on and had a few more ping pong balls myself. But, I think the Cavs have shown that even with a string of #1 picks you aren't guaranteed anything.

Buck up folks. IMHO this is much more of a 5 man draft anyway. Vonleh is a very nice prospect. I'm not sure there is any drop off from Parker to Vonleh to be honest. And heck, we even have another 1st rounder to add to the team with. And with this deep draft we could get another good prospect.

It's not all doom and gloom.

Wish I didn't check in, then I would be disappointed and bothered tomorrow instead of tonight.

I had a feeling it would be this way so I shouldn't be... but am.

At least it wasn't the Lakers or Boston.
