This year should be a swing for the fences home run draft for the jazz imo. Forget the safer pick.
Embiid and wiggins have the highest ceiling/most potential. Hope at least one of them is the homerun

We have good bigs on the team already, plus Embiid already has a history of back issues which is something you can't ignore. What we don't have is a reliable scoring wing. I'd be more inclined to get the two best wings in the draft and hopefully one turns out to be the superstar we need.

Agree. I'm not one to brag (ok, maybe I am), but in my pre-season prognostication, I wrote that Phoenix could be a real surprise team because they had a lot of solid veterans. Of course, I will admit I didn't see them making the playoffs. I thought a .500 season was likely their ceiling. I thought the Jazz would finish in the 30-35 range (pre-Burke injury) and brought it down by 5 after the injury. So Phoenix has surpassed my expectations and (thankfully), Utah has underperformed (and will be rewarded with a better pick).

This sort of thinking is how the Bowie thing happened to Portland. We already have Drexler and we didn't get Hakeem so Bowie. BPA

Bowie was a helluva college player. So was Jordan. I'll bet draft boards were mixed as to who was ranked higher. Hindsight is ALWAYS easy, but it's not hard to see why Bowie was the 2nd pick.

I get the hindsight thing but, Bowie had already missed like two years of basketball due to injury when he was drafted. I bet most draft boards had Jordan and I do think they ultimately made the decision not on BPA but on needs.

Funny that you bring up Bowie, you're actually helping my argument. Sam Bowie had an injury in college that prevented him from playing two seasons at Kentucky. Portland ignored this red flag and drafted him anyways...the end result wasn't good for Portland. Embiid has been diagnosed with a spinal stress fracture...not an injury that NBA teams should be taking lightly (especially for a big man). The Jazz could take the Portland route, ignore the warning signs and draft Embiid. For the purposes of this particular discussion, if the Jazz had picks #1 and #2, I'd take the two best players available that also filled a need (and don't have a history of injury problems)...that would be Wiggins and Parker.

Food for thought: The last time the Jazz drafted a big man with a history of injuries in college was Curtis Bordchart...do you remember how that one turned out?

I hadn't heard this diagnosis. I had heard back spasms and nothing else. Of course if he has a srs back issue then you don't take him that high.
