Last night I was thinking "wow that wasn't part of the offense" every time Dwill dumped it to AJ in the post, then they did it time and time again. In the second half they tried it a couple of times and the spurs started to double and Big Al was unable/unaware to pass out of it. He only scored 4 pts after the half. I hope that Sloan gave him the green light to do his thing when he has a 1 on 1 from time to time because it was very effective. The next step is for him to learn to pass out of the double team. I'm still optimistic that will happen.I don't know what the thread is implying, but I'm saying the Jazz obviously still need time to figure out what works best. AJ has strengths that don't fit well into the Jazz system. He was sold to us fans as "the best low post scorer in the league", but the Jazz don't like to run black hole offense to accommodate. The Jazz went away from early season AJ post iso's and kept hammering The System down his throat. It didn't take, and the longer and harder they pushed AJ the worse the Jazz have looked.
Last night was different offensively as D-Will and AJ started to mesh rather than worrying about involving the entire team. Chat was miserable until AJ's monster dunk, when sentiment flipped from "we're all gonna die" to "AJ is having a monster game. Give us more!". I hope to look at the game after a couple weeks or more as the turning point.
I think this may be a better explanation of what the thread is about. After a major aquisition (RJ) the spurs eeked out 50 wins last year (tied for 8th place in the west) and at times looked like they were getting too old. This year, they are blowing everybody out of the water and in first place in the league. They are maximizing what they have. This thread is about the hope that the same happens to the Jazz. Yeah I know it's always a year away, but such is the life of a Jazz fan.It takes time to fit the puzzle pieces together in a way that maximizes strengths and masks weaknesses.
By the way, RJ is shooting significantly better this year from three (not that its the sole reason the spurs are dominating). The difference between 31% and 40% is the difference between a good 3 pt threat and abysmal 3pt shooting. The only guy on the Jazz shooting over 40% from 3 is Millsap.
