Official Round 1 Predictions: Jazz-V-Thunder

Actually one more:

We need @Douchebag K to make a statement that it is mathematically impossible for the Jazz to win a championship. And if they do he will change his legal name to match his board name. Seems a worthy sacrifice.

Aren’t you the dude who stopped watching Jazz games because things weren’t going well a couple seasons back ?

I got frustrated the last couple weeks of 2016 after watching every televised game for over 21 years. Excuse me for getting frustrated. I just wasn't jazzgasming for a while. Think it was a culmination of drudging through the Corbin years and seeing very limited sets from Snyder, with very few adjustments or wrinkles. This season has been much better, although I still see a lot of the same flaws in our offense that I saw two years ago, and Portland exploited last night. When teams are aggressive to avoid letting us set up on ball screens we falter because the offense relies on screen mismatches and passing. Hopefully there is a remedy if OKC does the same thing. I still think that running UCLA with our roster could be very efficient in today's NBA, and all the back screens and cut would open up a lot as they are much harder to avoid than on ball screens.

I do see a different attitude and fight with this team than I have seen from any other team including the S&M teams.

I don’t think it’s that at all. I totally understand why the Jazz lost to Portland they way they did. It was a perfect storm for a Portland victory. I literally factor zero of last nights performance into how we will do vs OKC. However, the fact of the matter is that I don’t think we can win 2 games in OKC and I think that’s what it will take to win this series. Thus, losing HC cost us a chance to advance. (Again, I HOPE I’m wrong)
You will be, so congrats in advance.

Not to mention we are playing at a much higher level than we were last year and we are healthy unlike last year in the playoffs. We literally had every starter with an injury in the playoffs. If you count food poisoning.

Also I'm not sure okc is better than the clippers last year. Stats don't back that up.

Stats are tough to gage from one year to the next considering how much the landscape of the Western Conference shifted in the offseason. You can point the any stat or advanced analytic that you’d like, I’ll trust the eye test. I know it’s just opinion, but I absolutely feel like this is a better team than the Clipper squad from last year with a much more formidable HCA.

Yes, the Jazz are also improved, and more healthy than last year. That’s why I think this series is far from unwinable for Utah. I’m still picking OKC though....

Fair enough. My eyes tell me that OKC is meh this year and not really any better than last year. The Clippers team was a veteran team that played well together.

But even if you think OKC is better than last years Clippers I would point to stats and the eye test that this current squad is playing much much better than last years Jazz squad this time of year. We rolled into the playoffs with a hobbled Favors, Hill and Hood. Then we lost Gobert right off the bat and we lost Hayward for 1 of the games. On top of that even if healthy that team never played at the high level this team has played at post all-star.

The Jazz *can* win this, but the margin of error is very small. If PG13 and WBrook hit contested 28-ft 3-pointers, then hat's off to them. I believe in the Jazz's defense for sure, but they're going to have to find a way to score the ball. Rubio going to have to shoot well. Ingles and Crowder are going to need to shoot well. But someone else needs to step up and make plays on offense. Maybe Royce O'Neale surprises. Maybe Alec Burks has a good game or two.

One potential hero for the Jazz is Derrick Favors, if he goes beast mode.
So you're saying that we need someone to contribute outside of Rubio, Ingles and Crowder. If only we could think of someone. Hmmmmmitchell.

Jazz in 5
We split the first games, figure them out, then go for the sweep, closing them out on their floor.
PG looks at Quin Snyder after the final game and says "Sensei, do for me what you did for Joe ****ing Jingles" .

The flood of FAs looking to hitch their wagons to the Jazz gravy train begins.

Utah has its pick of the FA litter, and the Jazz dynasty officially begins.

It's the first ever 5 game sweep, and it includes a loss by the team that supposedly did the sweeping.

I do agree that super aggressive defenses that overplay to deny on ball screens and hand offs are going to muck us up. I hope Quin has some counters to some of this stuff, i think last night was a real good exercise in highlighting things we need to address.

anyhoo for your benefit i will make the statement that we have practically zero chance to make the conference finals. If we do i will change my profile pic to a pic of me with "Douchebag" written in texta on my forehead.

Okay, I'll change my prediction and say Jazz in 7. That's the only way, they'd advance. It's funny how ppl are comparing regular season win-loss on OKC when the playoffs is a completely different story.
