OFFICIAL: Trade Deadline Thread

KOC wants to make sure he has the flexibility to max out Al this summer.

That being said, if he does, he should be gone. He would have two top 3 picks that didn't develop/pan out (as evidenced by the incredibly minute amount of minutes they are receiving at this point in their careers) and he couldn't turn 8 expiring contracts into anything.

I have loved the guy so far...this is his defining moment. If this team looks anything like how it looks now come next Oct, I'll change my name to KOCbegone.

The only thing that might make him do that is a deep playoff run. It doesn't look remotely possible now but once Mo gets back and if the Jazz start clicking, he may consider bringing Al back (although not at max). If the Jazz are swept again in the first round or miss the playoffs, Al is gone for sure I suspect.

The Jazz might have a puncher's chance in a series against the Clippers or Grizzlies, but we'd have to move up in the seeding. Otherwise, making the playoffs will extend our season basically one week.

Its not about extending, its about revenue. 1 playoff game~1 Million.

Spencer Checketts in Dave Locke podcast pretty much just confirmed that. Money, Money, Money. It's a business, and as someone who just quit teaching to run a roofing company I understand it

This is from ESPN chat:

What do you think the bulls chances are for getting Al jefferson?

Michael Wallace (2:09 PM)

The better questions is, 'What are the Bulls willing to get up to get him?' because it will take parting with a key piece. If it's either of their All-Stars (Deng or Noah), I don't make that move. That means you'll have to work some sort of package around Carlos Boozer, and Utah has been there, done that.

At this point, who'll be traded from Utah? With which team(s)?

Michael Wallace (2:35 PM)

Right now, Utah is in the midst of one of its best stretches of the season and have the seventh seed in the West. The only problem is the Jazz have expiring contracts, and might not be able to re-sign a major free agent in the offseason, so they are in the same position as Toronto - meaning they have to take a big-money/marquee player contract that has additional years. Everything about the way they play would suggest Pau Gasol would be a perfect fit there, but I'm not sure if either of Utah's bigs - Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap - fit what D'Antoni truly wants.

I would do a trade with Dallas to send out a vet and take back a meh contract plus Dallas' 1st-round pick this year. Dallas is going to try to be competitive and go after a free agent while they have Dirk. They don't need a late-lotto pick this year. The Jazz could keep the Dallas pick or package it with one of their other ones to move up in this upcoming draft. A deal with #11 and #16 could get us as high as #7 or #8, which is Anthony Bennett and Marcus Smart territory.

The Jazz get one or two good young players in this draft and Dallas tries to regain their competitiveness. Win-win. I honestly don't care who we take back--Beaubois, Marion, whatever.

I recall a KOC interview where KOC said that the best players to get are the ones that go to the free throw line at a high rate and that these guys are efficient- meaning they have more points than shots.
With that being said, I doubt KOC wants anything to do with Al Jefferson next season. Just a hunch, though.

Weezur - I hope you are right.

To the guy that posted about Boozer -

Boozer is a much better player and if it comes down to resigning Al or trading Al for Boozer, I'd take Boozer all the way. I also think that if Boozer had a Favors backing him up on defense, we would like him a whole lot more.

But I don't want either.
