Official UofU homer thread

Back to Utah fall camp. After practice Asiata talked about how good Williams has looked and how he expects him to separate himself from the pack next week.

Remember this: The media only sees the last 20 mins or so of practice. So, they see a lot of Huntley airing it out and Williams being conservative. Huntley has looked really, really good, especially for a true freshman.

Williams has been a lot better. And his biggest asset is how smart he is. Sounds like he knows where to put the ball and when to take shots and when to live to fight another day.

And Zack Moss. Wow. A true freshman? Wow. Think a better, faster, more elusive junior year Harvey Unga. Moss may overtake McCormick on the depth chart.

And our DL? You could take our second string DL and they'd start at 90% of the country. Our DL is INSANE. Look at our backups:

Pita T
Chris Hart
Leki Fotu
Tasini
Tupai

No wonder Handsome bailed when playing time wasn't promised. No wonder Tui'kolovatu left. We are freaking STACKED.

Same with our secondary. We have 9 players that are good enough to start right now. Out of 5 positions.

Expect a lot of 5 down linemen and 1 LB'er with Hansen or Thompson coming up and acting like a hybrid LB/S.

The Squally fumble was lucky...maybe. But, when your C is getting his butt kicked by the DT's all game, they get jumpy. You start to press. If Mangum hadn't crapped the bed so badly, and BYU is only down 7, maybe that fumble never happens. So, like Urban always says, "I don't believe in luck. I believe in being so prepared that I can take advantage of any opportunity that presents itself. That's what people call luck."

The rest, Utah was prepared. They had Mangum scouted and knew what he was doing before he did. The first quarter vs BYU was maybe the greatest quarter of defense ever.
I was wrong. You will argue anything and everything. If I didn't know better, I'd think you were a damn lawyer.

I agreed with what you said. To refresh your memory, here is what you said:

Some were lucky (not even green could argue that). But that's what happens when you're that prepared.

OMG can we just quit with the BYU obsession around here already no offense but geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
The obvious answer to your question is no.

I agreed with what you said. To refresh your memory, here is what you said:

Green,

On the DL depth, it's insane to me that we just had a player leave the program because playing time would come easier at USC. I know USC is thin in their front 7 but I NEVER thought I'd live to see the day that USC was poaching Utah reserves in search of starters.

If only we had the same problem at QB....

Quite honestly, if you come back and look at this thread during the course of the season, you really won't see any BYU talk (aside from the week we play them). Things get boring in here during the offseason and of course it ends up leading to Utah/BYU smack talk.

I eagerly await the time our thoughts are filled with USC, Oregon, and UCLA.

Good post

Bill Reilly was told this by people in the program:

Williams is the best leader we've had at QB since Brian Johnson.

Williams treats this like a job and he is a professional. He is here to do his job and isn't going to let anyone hold him back. If a WR drops a ball, he gets on the WR. If a defensive player takes a shot at one of his offensive players, he gets in the defensive player's face.

He works his tail off. Film, lifting, practice. He is here to win the job, win games and continue his football career.

He isn't here to make friends. He is here to succeed.

Huntley is like a mini-Williams. Very professional and workman like. Then Scott Mitchell said that this situation is great for Huntley because he can see Williams work, Huntley can learn from that, get his body and mind ready, and in two years take over the job.

I LOVE what I just wrote/heard.

So I have a question for the Ute fans in here.

How did you become a Ute fan?

Alumni? Neighborhood? Family?

I'll start.

I grew up in a BYU household. But then I started attending the U. I graduated with my Bachelor's just 9 short years ago, and that last year of school I was going full time and was up on campus all the time. I was a non-traditional student before that, and taking a year to be a traditional student to get it done and finished really made me fall in love with the school. Then, when I got my MBA there, it more than sealed the deal. I am a two-time graduate of the U and love that place a lot a really lot.
