Does it matter? Can't do much worse than they've been the last 2 years.

This is nothing but good for Utah. Scrap the spread offense find a system that fits Utah better and figure out how to not have one of the worst offenses in college football.

Not happy to see Erickson go though, He was a great recruiter.
 
If Harding wants it the Job is probably his, as he's already co-coordinator. I hope this means Utah will finally go get a QB coach to replace one of them. And that guy should have experience as a QB coach so that we can actually start developing the players at the QB position. Travis Wilson actually seemed to regress as a passer while at Utah. And Troy Williams showed no improvement throughout the year. Get a guy in here that can fix that.

As much of a trainwreck the Utah OC position has been, Utah is a PAC 12 school, they pay their assistants decent money, they're annual fixture in the College Football Playoff rankings, they have a great Poly recruiting pipeline, they recruit Cali extremely well for a team not named USC or UCLA, they recruit Texas better than they should be able to as well as Florida. If Whitt actually wants to step outside his comfort zone, go get a big name, and actually let him control the offense, he absolutely could.

My Dream candidate and a guy I 100% believe Utah could get is the Tuiasososopo kid out of UCLA. He's currently the passing game coordinator for the Bruins. Bringing him in as the OC is an immediate upgrade for him and a great chance to up his stock as a potential HC. The guy would be a slam dunk. He recruits the West as well as any coach out there and would only strengthen Utah's poly pipeline as well as allowing Utah to get some Cali kids they usually don't have a shot at.

Could Whitt make this happen? Absolutely. Will he? Absolutely not. If it's not Harding, it will be another unremarkable name out of Whitt's "lapdog" Rolodex.

Maybe it is the BYU fan talking. If I were an OC with any kind of a reputation, I wouldn't touch the job. The dude you mentioned was (I think) the OC under Sark at Washington. He's got a decent name. If he's looking to get back to that kind of position, going to Utah is not the right step. The only type of guy Utah is going to get will be some dude that is maybe starting to make a name for himself as a position coach at a bigger school or an OC at a low tier school.

Utah can pay their OC more than BYU pays their head coach.

This may be hard for a guy like you to understand, but money ain't everything. Anybody looking to take that job has to factor in that they've replaced their OC now 9 times in 10 years. If you were looking for a promotion, would go to the place where your new boss has fired the guy in your position 9 out of 10 years? I sure as hell wouldn't. Not without a guaranteed 5 year contract or something like that. And those are virtually unheard of for assistant coaches in college football.

I'm hearing a few people say that Harding will be elevated to playcaller with Jordan Wynn becoming the Co-OC. That sounds EXACTLY like a Whittingham move to me. That's a huge facepalm in my book.

Im with ya. I like a lot of ute players and i dont like a few..... Jordan Wynn was one of my least favorite utes of all time. (brent casteel might have been my favorite btw)

Yea that would be disappointing but a typical Whitt hire.
 
Oh, and one more thing...

I went to the basketball game yesterday. The 76-60 score makes the game sound closer than it really was.

Our basketball team is ON, kids. With all the players, we are deep, we have options, and something happened in Hawaii that made them a better team. I don't know what happened, but they were a different team yesterday.

I'm excited.

Troy Taylor, if Whitt stays out of his way, is going to create some very positive change here at the U.

And making Harding Assistant Head Coach was a great move as well, especially since they're able to keep him on the OL. He's been a fantastic OL coach.

I like it. If for nothing else than it is out of the ordinary for Whitt.
 
I will eat a little bit of crow. I though there was a 0% chance that Whitt was gonna hire outside of his inner circle. I thought there was 0% chance that Whitt was gonna hire a guy with this aggressive of a passing offensive track record. So far, I was dead wrong.

I still think there's a 0% chance that Whitt will actually let this guy run his offense his way, but I've been wrong thus far into the process, so I guess I'll just have to hope I'm wrong again. It's a good hire. Utah offensive recruits are already on twitter touting the hire. That's exciting to see.
