What's new

Official UofU homer thread

I agree in every respect.
But... long term view.
I think we will be fine.
I think we need to keep in mind... new offense. New quarterback who started only his 3rd game. Things can only get better, and if Huntley - a sophomore! - keeps getting better, we may be in for a very fun next few years. :)

I honestly feel like Utah is a Rose Bowl team in 2018. 4 outta 5 Olineman will be back, Huntley in his 2nd year as a starter with Tuttle waiting in the wings, Moss/Shyne/DHC coming back at RB, and every WR coming back except for Carrington. Oh, and some guy named Britain Covey will be back in the fold. Defensively, about half the starters return and they rotate through the 2 deep so much that every starter next year will have played significant Defensive snaps.

It also doesn't hurt that guys like Rosen and Darnold will be starting for the Jets and 49ers. I'm still excited to see Utah play some good football this year, but make no mistake, Whittingham knows that next year is a statement year for Utah. Hell, if Carrington was coming back I'd be tempted to pick them as a playoff team. In 3 games I'm already convinced that he's the best WR I've seen play for a University in this state, but not just at Utah.

Not saying it will happen but Darnold (and I think Rosen too) has already said they'll be staying in school.

I LIKE the idea of them coming back.
Can you imagine the dominance of the PAC-12 conference if they do?
We could get 2 of the playoff spots. And since we'd beat both of those teams in head-to-head, we'd be guaranteed one of them. :)

Big test for Utah tonight. While I don’t classify Arizona as a “good” team, Rich Rod has always been a match-up nightmare for Whitt, winning 4 outta 5 meetings. Their rushing attack looks pretty formidable and it’s a PAC12 venue where Utah hasn’t had a lot of success. IMO, this game is going to serve as a pretty good barometer for a young Utah team.
