Official Utah Utes Football 2012 Thread

No doubt that oregon and usc are very good..... After watching some of the oregon game, i have to say that they have looked better than any team that i have watched play this weekend.

Maybe it's a good thing the PAC12 network isn't on everywhere.

WSU gets smoked by BYU
Stanford sneaks past San Jose St
Cal loses at home to Nevada
Colorado loses to Colorado St

I think this just goes to show how messed up college football is.

The "Big Boy" conferences typically have 2-3 teams which are pretty good. The rest of the teams are garbage.

Unfortunately, those garbage teams will always have more opportunity, money, and chances over mid major powers like BYU and Boise. It's pretty pathetic that a team like Washington St. or Cal has a better chance of playing in a major bowl game than Boise St.

I mean, hell, just look at last year's PAC-12 Championship game. What an embarrassment.

I say knock down all the conferences since rivalry and tradition doesn't matter anymore. Just let everybody play everybody and have a huge tournament like they do in March/April.

Boise State's football team is heading to the Big East next year so adding them to this list is just dumb to begin with. Stop whining about conferences. If you have a problem it should be with BYU who likely could have been in the Big 12 if they didn't act like little girls and think they were bigger than the conference to begin with. Enjoy Independence and all the loveliness that comes along with.........

Does the big east maintain it's automatic bid? If not, then what does Boise gain?

In your attacks against BYU you ignore the fact that college football is the least progressive sport out there. It doesn't reward good teams like every single other sport does.

Polls and computers should NEVER determine championships. Being tied at the hip to some conference should never be a determining factor. Just look at the embarrassment that last year's PAC-12 championship was. UCLA wasn't even in the same league as Oregon.

San Antonio would have never been while the Knicks would have a dynasty.
Green Bay? Would never even sniff the Lombardi trophy while the Jets and Cowboys would constantly be in the hunt.

Let the players decide championships. Not polls and computers.

Break down all conferences now and let them duke it out in a 32 team playoff.

How good were the Utes in 04? 08? We'll never know because we didn't have a tournament like everybody else does.

Stupid.

How long has it been since Utah State was even remotely competitive against Utah?

Doesn't matter. What happened between the Aggies and Utes the past 10-15 years has nothing to do with Saturday's game. Utah State has turned the corner, which doesn't surprise me considering who's coaching them.

I think Utah will win, but it's not gonna be a cupcake game like some are thinking. If the Utes come up here and put a whopp'n on the Ags, that will say more about how good the Utes are than how bad the Aggies are. I don't think that will happen though.

No, they don't. In fact, the Big East is what caused the BCS to blow up, in my opinion.

It has to be more than coincidence that the Big East announced a bunch of mid majors joining, and then within a couple months the BCS automatic qualify system is scrapped.

Well be going to a 4 team playoff. Unless some other team totally shocks the world, I think most years the 4 teams will be from the Pac 12, Big 12, Big 10, and SEC.

I agree with you though, a real playoff would be awesome. 32 might be stretching it, but 16 should be doable.

A 32 team playoff (5 games for those going to the championship game) in addition to a 12+ game season is asking WAY too much out of the student athlete's body and health. The amount of injuries would become astronomical. I don't think they would or should do this.

Over the last 10 years BYU is hardly a mid power. TCU, BYU & Utah were. But BYU? BYU has had some good seasons but never one with less than 2 losses, where as BSU,TCU & Utah have had multiple undefeated.

PAC12 Title game sucked largely because USC was banned from play postseason. Oregon/USC would have put up 2 top 10 teams.

The conferences aren't really the problem. It's the postseason that's the problem EVERY year. The 4 team playoff should be nice. 8 teams would be even better.

I am all for an 8 team playoff. Winners from the 4 major conferences and 4 other teams to be at large bids with no conference recieving more than 2 teams in the tourney. Most years it would be 2 pac 12 teams, 2 sec teams, 3 big 10/big 12 teams and 1 mid major. Should be a fair and doable tournament.

And all of the 4 major conferences should have a championship game. Meaning if the Big 12 wants included they must add 2 teams and get to 12.

Oh this is just RICH.

So that's your opinion now, but when it comes to 1984... Well, that's OK.

I will never understand the hypocrisy of the BYU fan base.

How about we get this back to a discussion about Utah football and not about BYU's sour grapes?

As far as I'm concerned, USU scares the piss out of me. Gary's done what we all knew he would do - turned them into a force to be reckoned with. And after we play that one other team, I honestly and truly think there is no way our O-line holds off USC's D-line. They were just scary to watch yesterday.

I hope I'm wrong, but I could see us losing a tough one in Logan. BYU is definitely going to be tough, and USC... I sure hope we don't end up 1-3 over the next few weeks.
