Weird season just keeps getting weirder.

It's very important this year to get wins against the really bad teams. With the short season, these kinds of losses will really hurt in the end.

It's important for the jazz to not let this happen to them.

What gives me hope is seeing how this jazz team is giving a solid effort every night.
That is what wins road games.

When the Jazz win tomorrow they will be only 1 1/2 games out of first in the west. In a wierd reversal of the natural order having a 10-4 record puts us right on the heels of a #1 seed in the west but tied with 3 teams for 3rd seed in the East. So based on tie breakers we could be a 6th seed there. What the hell?

A lot of east teams have gotten fat off of feasting on the lame teams in the east. The east has a few top teams, and a lot of bottom feaders.

Look at how quite a few east teams are losing to west teams tonight..

well....except for OKC

Thus the reason that I said previously the West 8th seed and last in the West will only be maybe 4 or 5 games by years end. Back to Backs and Back to Back to Backs will automatically be losses for some teams as the season goes on.

KD showing off for his D.C. area fam with 10-3 point attempts, only hitting 2. Too bad the Nuggets and Spurs pulled out squeakers.

It's a long season folks.

I have no doubt the Jazz, Heat, Lakers, Spurs, etc will lose to someone like the Wizards at least once this year.

I think it's becoming apparent that worst-case - if Utah takes care of business at home and against the bad teams in the league, they'll be a playoff team because there will also be enough games against "good teams" where rest and injuries give them a competitive advantage.

Then there's that chance the Jazz become/are becoming a pretty good team themselves - at which point who knows they could end up hosting a first-round playoff series. We'll have a pretty decent idea of how good the Jazz actually are by the end of February.

I just worry that we might have a "good" problem....

Are we becoming too good too fast? Had we stuck it out in the lotto during the boozer/memo/Duron years, and gotten ourselves just one more player, perhaps we could have taken better advantage of that talent?

All I'm sayin, is that this lotto is LOADED with talent. It would be awesome if we could end up with anther lotto pick or two... I don't know what the rules are, what our status is, etc with our lotto picks. However, I drool every time I see some of those Kentucky high fliers. I'd love to have a dominate 3 or 2 guard on this team.... A younger and better version of Josh Howard would do wonders.... Just imagine if we had Danny Granger!

We don't need Lebron. But a draft pick that ended up being like Danny Granger (very solid. Never a franchise guy. But a very solid guard/forward) would provide us with a dominate lineup that could hopefully compete with the Heat and Thunder for years to come.

Example: The 07 playoffs were fun. However, in 07, Durant was drafted. Think he could have helped us out? Deron, x, Durant, Booz, Memo, Millsap, and Memo? Championship even with boozer missing 2/3s the season due to torn jersies and banging michelle money...
Noah was also drafted. With Noah, we would have finally had a defensive bail out Boozer. Millsap and Memo would have come off the bench....

With the Memo TPE, maybe we can pick up a veteran from a team looking to get in on the Deron and Howard sweepstakes. That's why the Lakers dumped Odom. I hear you regarding a young player, but a veteram starter could be just as valuable. Look at the impact Howard is having. The Jazz have a lot of youth already in Favors, Kanter, Howard and Burks. I'm not saying go after a 34 yr old on the downside of his career. But picking up a young "veteran" like we did with Jefferson would suit Utah's needs just fine.

Or maybe the Jazz could get late 1st's for CJ and Howard at the deadline. Package 3 1st rounders to move up from the 8-10 range (provided we get the GS pick) into say the #6 slot, where an impact SF could be drafted.

THIS JUST IN:

The '95-'96 Chicago Bulls (the best team in NBA history, 72-10) lost to the 21-61 Toronto Raptors.

This matters because I hope the Jazz don't lose.

This. We lose no game from this point forward. This year goes down as perhaps the best team of all time.

On the other hand as of yesterday .500 was good for #6 in the East and out of the playoffs in the West. The East is more stratified.

Agree. Outside of OKC, there are no "elite" teams in the West right now. Dallas dumped some players to prepare for the Deron/Howard bidding and the Lakers did as well (I still say CP3 ends up with the Lakers in 2 years). The Eastern teams have made their big moves for the most part (well, except for NJ hoping Deron would then bring them Howard). I'm a bit surprised Orlando is playing as well as they are right now, but Chicago, Atlanta and the Magic could all challenge Miami. And there are a couple of good darkhorses in Philadelphia and Indiana.

In the West, OKC - despite the brain fart at Washington - is the clear cut favorite. I'd place SA, Lakers, Clippers, Dallas a level below. Basically, they have to hope for an injury to one of OKC's key players. And I'll be honest, I'm thrilled ith Utah's record, but still not sold we'll be a playoff team. The schedule gets really tough in Feb/Mar. I could see a couple of 4-5 game losing streaks in there. I still think the Jazz finish around .500. Only way that changes, IMO, is more consisentcy from the wings. Howard is the only reliable one right now.
