Update on LA28 OLYMPICS:

Oklahoma City could host two LA28 Olympic Events--It was announced
Friday that Devon Park, formerly known as USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium,
will be the host venue for softball in the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics;
pending approval from the Los Angeles City Council, will also host canoeing.

Redirected funding

According to a City Council filing by the MAPS Advisory Board, the OKC Public Works Department
has requested more than $685,000 to compile a feasibility study and master plan for hosting canoe
slalom events at the Riversport OKC whitewater facility that was constructed as part of MAPS 3.

Additionally, $3 million has been requested to update and replace Riversport’s underwater Unistrut
system to which slalom obstacles are secured.

In that filing, the MAPS Advisory Board, led by Program Manager David Todd, has proposed redirecting
that $3.6 million from the ongoing budget of the MAPS 3 Convention Center.

Oklahoma City hires consulting firm to tackle new arena:

The firm has a pretty impressive portfolio, working on building professional sport arenas all across the country. Oklahoma City officials said they simply needed a little more help with a project as big and important as the new Downtown Oklahoma City arena.

To help the city navigate how our new arena will look and exactly what will go into it, the city council members approved hiring Denver's CAA Icon, a professional consulting firm. They will oversee the architects, construction and the eventual completion of the new arena.

"They can help us get there. That is something, while we have built a lot of buildings for maps, we have never had to build something to meet the NBA requirements,” said David Todd, MAPS program manager.

To make sure the $900 million arena is on par, and in many ways better than current NBA arenas, CAA Icon will be in charge.
"These buildings are very complicated and there are lots of different technologies that go into them,” said Dan Vaillant, president of development of CAA Icon.
