OMG! Calipari would choose Kanter over Knight

That's how KOC rolls. He's old school and believes trades should remain a secret until consummated.
Agree, and Scott Layden was the same way when he was VP of BO. Wouldn't be surprised that the Jazz tell other teams that leaking info early is a deal-killer. That secrecy is very shrewd on their part, alot of times teams will leak deals or info on guy their targeting to either gauge public opinion or allow someone else to come and one-up the orgininal offer.

This is something to consider. However, Calipari is a snake and I really don't trust a thing the man has to say. In fact, that's a big reason I'm wary of players that come from his program generally and Kanter specifically (they seem to have been very close).

Yea, I think that's the primary reason deals get leaked. The Carmelo situation was terrible, but Denver wanted to get the very best offer possible. Fortunately for us, KOC learned what NJ was willing to give Denver so the Deron deal was easy to put together. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the rights to one of our picks is traded after the new CBA is signed. With as much youth as the Jazz have, I don't think they necessarily want two more rookies. On the other hand, I don't see them overpaying significantly for an old veteran.

Going back in Jazz History--wasn't it the Coach of Seton Hall that told the Jazz that Luther Wright was just fine, no problems? wikipedia says the Jazz are still paying Wright $153,000 for the next 9 yrs.

I'm guessing they check everything that anyone tells them. I doubt Caliparri's comments impact their grading.

Good! So you recognize that drafting Knight at 3 is probably about 10 draft picks too high for him! Great!

Thriller, I wish the draft worked the way you thought it did. I wish players who got drafted at 3 all turned out to be worthy of the 3rd pick. It doesn't work that way. Some drafts are better than others. I wish all the players had a glass ball we could peer into and see if he will indeed be a 20 and 10 guy,or a complete bust.

I really like your posts, sincerely. However, this one sucks. Explain what you base your opinion on. I'm fair and will listen, but I assure you've just been fed your (mis)information by the haters. Consider it a duel, ha!

Are you telling me that Coach Calipari's opinion didn't change a single person's mind. I find that fascinating. He coached Knight he watched both players play against others player and he thinks Kanter is the best choice. I can't believe that everyone is so set in their opinions. I personally lean toward Kanter, but if Calapari said Knight was the better player it would really make me think.

Well, oldtimer, I'm too in the know with UK bb to be swayed at this point, so I can't say with any unbias. Having said that, I'm not sure anyone should be persuaded by 'coach-speak.'

I have ALWAYS (more than a year) believed Kanter is a TOP (top) player of ANY draft. I've watched him play in person .. and against current NBA centers .. and he KICKED their *** big time. Opinions are made, no one here has a vote (that I a aware).

Uh. Please quote the part in my post where I gave an opinion on the future of an NBA prospect.

Oh I must have misunderstood your post. Then you agree with Calipari, but you are simply deriding his knowledge of the game. Makes sense.

For what it is worth, hearing Calipari's opinion on the matter strengthened my belief that Knight is being seriously over-rated by many Jazz Fanz.

I think they miss having a player like Deron, and so they're trying to fill the void by latching onto an unknown and inflating him into a replacement.
It's common after a breakup.

Calipari took a horrid Nets team in the mid 90's and made them a decent playoff team. His problem was eventually the players tuned him out because he's a screamer.

oh well if that's the case, and many of you think Calipari is right, then we are not getting Kanter anyway. He would either go to Cleveland or Minnesota. Good news, since we will have either Irving or Derrick Williams.

When your "franchise player" is Keith Van Horn, I don't think anyone should blame the coach for that particular team's failures. That would be like blaming JSlo had KOC gotten rid of Millsap and Al and made CJ our "franchise."

Wait wait wait.......knight is an unknown? Please, what is your defenition of kanter??????? The hypocisy!

"Yeah, he is," the UK coach said. "And, I'm telling you, people are looking at him right now and saying, 'Oh my gosh! How can I pass on this?' He's a beast. He's skill and all of 6-11. And I'm not talking about an undersized 6-7. You're talking about real size. They'll see athleticism they haven't seen.

"If you're asking me and I'm picking at 1, I'm taking Enes Kanter. That's no disrespect to Kyrie (Irving) or any of those other players. They're all worthy of that, too. That's just me, personally. Then again, I'm probably biased."
Calipari likened Kanter to "a Karl Malone-ish kind of guy."

Lexington newspaper (too lazy to link).
