What's new

On a positive note...

Thanks. Anyone know any other details? Like protected to which spot (I might have read 14, but not sure).

On 2nd thought, I'm not certain I care.

Top 3 protected. As of right now (barring any lottery jumps), PDX would have the #6 and #11 picks this year.

Miles and Howard will be gone after this season, so at least Burks will get legit minutes NEXT season.

How can you be so sure that he will. Jazz are notorious for bringing in washed up vets to play over young talented promising players.

There's actually some value in having young players play alongside vets and have to earn their minutes. Burks should be getting time though, that's obvious.

How is playing alongside terrible washed up drama queen help Burks exactly? I'm sure Bell's campaign to bench Burks did wonders for his confidence.

Burks has improved as a player since the draft. He must be working hard. I'm not defending Bell, but I think Howard is a good guy to have around to mentor the young guys. Now that the trade deadline has passed, lets see if the distribution of minutes changes. There's no need to showcase these guys now.

Oh more positive notes: In the last 2.5 years KOC has refused to take on bad contracts and has therefore turned expiring deals for:
Boozer
Korver
AK
Memo
Howard
Tinsley
and Miles
into 1 protected second round pick.

My positive thought to come out of this is...

Now that we are not trading CJ and Bell, Corbin doesn't have to play them to give them exposure.
He can just sit them and let them rot.

Will he? That's another question, but he can. Let Bell cry like a spoiled child.

Which of those would you want back? If you answer none, I think you just answered your own comment on why he many not have done much.

The cap space we got from Boozer/Korver/AK ect turned into Howard/Tinsley and got us under the cap. I would rather have a team to watch vs. a team that is relocating becuase its over the luxury cap yearly.

Yet he did nothing and are in a GREAT position cap wise next year/year after with possibly 2 lottery picks coming up in a deep draft.

Portland got the first round draft pick of the Nets, I thought Portland got the steal on that trade......that pick is huge IMO
Are the Nets stupid or something? Why would they give away that pick?? Am I the only one who thinks this?
It is top 3 protected. They may still get that pick.

Ding ding ding ding.

What do we have for our winner bob?

You are forgetting that he basically traded Boozer for Jefferson. And he still has a trade exception for Memo.

I'm just glad we aren't Portland! They are blowing up that team and it looks ugly! Can't believe they fired Nate!!

Just hoping now that GS will pass them in the standings to help ensure we get that pick. Cant believe they fired Nate? It was getting very ugly before these trades. Did you see the NY score?

This. When I opened this thread, I thought this would be the direction the OP was going to go. But alas, it was you who led us. As you pointed out, Howard and Miles will hopefully not be re-signed. Add in the fact that Bell and Harris will be expirings, and Jefferson and Millsap will be as well (which I think will be great for us because we'll have so many options of how we can handle that situation as the season goes along) AND we may have two lottery picks in a very good draft and it leaves me with a quarter chub. We're in a very good situation right now. Keep the faith./

Umm, no. You have to add Jefferson. WE got back a trade exception for Carlos which was used to acquire Big Al. And it's a fact that the Jefferson trade had been in the works since the previous trade deadline. That was also the reason for dumping Brewer; Minny was demanding an additional 1st. And they didn't want salaries back. So either way, they may have taken Booz' expiring, but preferred to not disrupt the team for 1/2 year so Kahn and KOC waited until the off-season. Same end result...extra 1st for Minny and no circus with having him for just a few months.

Memo has yet to be determined. But it did result in a financial gain of $20M+. So I'd say that's a pretty good trade. And you know NOTHING was coming back for AK. Jazz had to cut salaries. Letting his deal expire was the best way to do it. Or would you have preferred the Jazz take on a guy like Rip and then have no flexibility for years to come?

I hate that the Jazz did NOTHING today. The Dwight Howard surprise caused several teams to change strategies. And it happened so close to the deadline that minor deals (e.g. Miles, Raja, Tinsley, Howard) were pushed to the back burner by prospective trade partners. I can live with Howard, even CJ. I just wish Raja could have been dealt.

IMO Burks is the guy on this team that looks to like he couldn't care less what people think. He believes he is the best guy on the floor and there's nobody that can convince he otherwise.

That's a compliment to Burks and not a justification for Bell, Corbin, KOC.
