On the radar: 2012 Draft Class

Teams that I feel WILL be worse than GS next year: Cleveland, Toronto, Charlotte, Detroit, and Minnesota.

That would leave GS with the 6th pick if these were the only teams worse than them. But Sacramento, Washington, Houston, Indiana, Phoenix, Utah, New Orleans, and Denver all have a legit shot at being worse than them. All we need is for 2 of those 8 teams to have a worse record than GS.

I'm confident the Jazz will have GS's pick in the 2012 draft.

Last year, Sacramento and Washington both finished 12 games behind the Warriors. That's quite a bit of ground for those teams to make up.

Both teams have players that are prospectively MUCH better than anyone on golden state. I could see the Wizards easily outclassing the Warriors this season, with Sac really having to depend on whether Cousins continues to improve, and Jimmer is somewhat servicable as a Starter. Still cant believe they passed up on Knight

Good post. I think the Wizards and Kings will both be better this year .. particularly Washington.

Sac traded out of their draft spot before they realized they could have had Knight. Really bad trade. I'll be pretty impressed if Jimmer has the impact that Marcus Thornton had on the Kings last year. I'm not so sure they improve. Their PG will be Jimmer, Tyreke Evans isn't really a team player, Cousins will be good, but I'm not sure it adds up to that many more wins. It won't help if they lose Dalembert to free agency.

Washington will continue to improve with Wall. I like Vesely and Singleton, but I'm not sure whether that nets them a dozen more wins. They need to make a decision on Nick Young, and they otherwise rely on Jordan Crawford. They're not going to get more out of Andray Blatche and Yi Jianlian than they did last year. They've got some out-of-place veterans like Josh Howard and Rashard Lewis. I see them doing 5 - 10 games better, but they don't seem well put together to me.

That video of Andre drummond holy Hanna that dude is good. I haven't seen the likes of a player like that since alonzo morning played high school.

If you want to see a truly mediocre NBA roster line by line, check out the Charlotte Bobcats now that they gave up Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace. The Bobcats might challenge Toronto for the worst record in the league next year.

Looking at some of these teams, it at least looks like the Jazz have a coherent strategy to bring in players of similar age who complement one another. Some of these teams are a mess.

Could Alonzo make steals out on the floor, cross people up, and make spin moves before dunking over everybody?

The Bobcats are a good example of how you can be stuck on the treadmill for a very long time without a superstar. The franchise usually drafts in the mid to late lottery when the game changer they need is already gone. The one chance they did have was in 2006. They had the 3rd pick and Jordan decided Adam Morrison would be a better pro than Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay. They are still feeling the effects of that one.

2011: Kemba Walker (9) Can't see him being much better than their other short PG Augustin, so why?
2010: Traded 1st back in 2008 for....Alexis Ajinca
2009: Gerald Henderson (12) Bust. More of an athlete than basketball player, no NBA 3 point range.
2008: D.J. Augustine (9) Solid pick but Lopez and Mcgee were still on the table.
2007: Brandan Wright (8) Bust. Another athlete with low basketball IQ. No real NBA position due to his light weight.
2006: Adam Morrison (3) Legendary Bust. NBAdraft compared him to Larry Bird, he came up a little short. This one really hurt them.
