Pacers Making Play at Millsap?

George is the Pacer's equivalent to Hayward. He had some nice games, and a good ending to the season (his D on Rose). He is now overly hyped. I honestly don't think he is that great, but Pacer's fans are up in arms in about how great he will be.

In 5 years, Granger might not even be starting anymore and paid $40+ million up to that point. On the Jazz, he'd be paid to take developmental time away from younger players and be his best when it mattered least.

In 5 years, if Paul George is the same player, you've paid him squat and that's it.

In two years, Granger is 30.

30 is usually when perimeter players hit a wall in their ability. Some find ways to adapt and stay good, none improve.


That's George's downside and Granger's realistic projected appraisal. If George ends up being Granger 2.0 - which he could - then that's massive upside.

Maybe a 3-way deal with another team? Bring in a PG and picks maybe, and cash? It could come together. I still think it is more or less a fart in the wind.

I really like Millsap, but I think if we can bring back more value than he's worth then the Jazz would do it. They've always said, "if it makes the team better, we'll consider it." A quality PG, picks and cash might be enough to pull the trigger. Look at the Deron trade. That was uber, and hard to believe, but still happened.

The Pacers talked to the Utah Jazz about forward Paul Milsap prior to the draft. Expect them to make a phone call to the Jazz again. The 26-year-old Milsap, a Pacer killer in the past, averaged a career-high 17 points last season.

Millsap would make for the power forward the Pacers are looking for in free agency through David West or Nene. If they were to trade Roy Hibbert as part of the package, thiy could sign Nene, then add Millsap making one of the better front courts in the Eastern Conference, along with Danny Granger. The Pacers are clearly looking to enter the conference race right now, instead of waiting to see their young pieces develop.

The question is, what's the objective? Can the Pacers win a title with Danny Granger as their best player? They've put together an interesting, fast, young team that can defend at one end, hit from the perimeter, and get out in transition. But do they have a team that could get hot and go on an unpredictable run to the title? OK, it wouldn't be unpredictable if we could answer that. But the point is that the Pacers are loading up for what is likely a team whose ceiling is the second round.

Have to try something, I guess. The Pacers surprised people last season. If they spend wisely, and that's a big if, they could do the same this year with heightened expectations.

It goes on from there, but the article makes it sound like the Pacers want to win now. Granger is getting older and their window for winning with him is getting slimmer. Plus, it is possible because Nene sounds like he does want out of Denver:

Therefore, it's possible Indiana could trade Hibbert for Millsap and then sign Nene as Hibbert's replacement. If the Jazz were to get Hibbert, then do we trade AJ as well or instead trade with a 3rd team for a starting PG package? Maybe the Jazz could include Harris in the deal and obtain Collison? He's not ideal but he is a better passer and just as good a scorer. Although, he is pretty short, young and makes mistakes. Yet, this whole team is young and will make plenty of mistakes. Seems perfect. lol

I like Collison too. Better facilitator than Harris. Earl Watson I like about as well though.

Also, how would the addition of Hibbert affect the development, or should I say playing time, for Favors and Kanter? On the surface, I like it. I'm just not sure though.

I have a love/hate with Hibbert. On one hand he is 7'3, that is huge and his offensive game is diverse. On the other hand his is slow as hell and would make Al Jefferson look like Amare Stoudemaire.

This. If Hibbert is coming off the bench as your 4th big. You are pretty good. But all in all I would rather have millsap and/or jefferson.

I'm not entirely sure about this, but the other downside to Hibbert is he's one year away from his RFA. And if I understand the new CBA correctly, he'll be entitled to a higher QO because he meets prescribed qualifiers (starts/minutes). So you get him for this year, and then next year his price goes up substantially. My take on Hibbert is he's one of those guys you love to underpay for, but don't want to get caught having to overpay.

I'd hang up the phone on a Hibbert for Millsap trade. The only trades I'd consider would be for starting-caliber, young SFs and/or PGs.

There is very little benefit in swapping a savvy veteran team leader for another big, and zero value in swapping him for bench players and mid-first picks. For me, when it comes to Millsap, the discussion with indy comes down to George and Collison or nothing.

First, this trade doesn't affect the win total for the Pacers at all.

Second, they are still stuck without a productive PF. So basically, Indiana adds payroll and an upgrade at PG (debatable) but they still have a hole at PF. It doesn't make sense to me.

yeah, I like it less than when I posted it. I'm not that interested in it for the Jazz, actually. Just an idea....
