Pau Gasol Trade - Steve Nash Implications

How much cap space would we have in 2013 if we did this trade for Gasol because I wouldnt want to trade for Gasol and miss out on signing someone like Harden in 2013

...does Harden look like a guy/player that would like to sign/play for the Jazz??? Throw that out of your mind!!!

Yes he does actually. I do not think Utah will get him but in answer to your question, yes.

I mean he was born in LA, and played ball at ASU. Utah isn't far from his hometown and it seems like he enjoys the west coast mentality more than the East coast.

....but don't ya think Harden has bought into more of a one on one, isolation, put'um up I got bounds mentality while playing with the Thunder? I mean, he does seem to be a team player, but if we keep our present system I just don't know!

How would you feel about this?: https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=8334rqf

I'm not saying I'm necessarily excited about it, but it could probably happen. We would then have to go after SF's hard and hopefully land Nash. Our starting five would look like the Washington Generals, but we would have relatively good shot blockers for their position except the PG.

Nash
Hayward
Kirilenko?, Batum? etc.
Favors
Gasol

Harris (trade and get a better backup PG)
Burks
Rush??, Carroll
Evans
Kanter
(9 player rotation)

Disagree. The majority of Harden's points don't come in iso's, but off high screen-roll where Harden has the innate ability to always get to his left hand - even if you funnel him to the right he can split it and still veer back left.

From out UCLA sets it's pretty easy to run a pick&roll w/your SG and big, and just last year we saw Ty tweak the set to where Hayward would play the traditional role of the 4 and catch the ball at the right elbow where he could either feed the ball to Millsap down on the right block or run a quick pick&roll from 17-feet to the middle of the court.

I'm not sure what Harden's ceilling is and personally I'm not convinced he's a franchise max-player - but I definitely think he could fit in with Utah and vice versa.

Don't really see why they would want Sap and Jefferson. I think they would like Harris because he is a clear upgrade @ PG and better than anyone they can (realistically) get in FA.

I don't see the Lakers wanting a draft pick.....
The Laker's aren't a developmental team, they're more of a team that takes the superstar your team develops. (IE: Harden, Howard, etc)

This is partly true but the Lakers are an older team and they need some young talent too. I wouldn't give up the 8th pick. I might say you can have either the GS or our 2013 1st pick (the lower of the two). Harris and AJ are certainly enough to get Gasol simply from a financial standpoint.

Why does Gasol coming to Utah make Nash come here? I feel like he can't take the risk of playing for a good team vs a championship contending team like OKC, Spurs, Miami etc or he will just finish out his career as a Sun.

He wants to go to a team where he can start and be a major contributor to winning, not just piggy back on a team, from what I understand.

This will depend on what KOC does this offseason and if he signs anyone to a deals that extend past next year. If we just have Gasol and the young 4 under contract, then we'd be at at $35-36MM in salaries. I think the cap's around $58MM, so we'd still have $20MM+ in cap space.

He's not gonna be anyone's backup, so scratch SAS and OKC off the list. Miami, maybe. I think Portland could be a real possibility as he probably would like playing in the Northwest. Honestly looking at teams across the league and realistic scenarios, I think if he had to make a list of 5 teams that he'd consider I think we might be on it.

You do have to be careful. I am in no way for saving money in hopes that Favors becomes a max guy, but I am much more for that than signing two old, aging by the second vets that would preclude us from resigning Favors.

Gasol only has two years left, so no worries there.

I mean if we can't get Nash then we can get Dragic. Then use the TPE and 2nd rounder to trade for Morrow. If Millsap isn't fine with coming off the bench trade him for Iggy.

Dragic/Tinsley/Watson
Hayward/Burks/Morrow
Iggy/Morrow/Hayward
Gasol/Favors/Evans
Favors/Kanter

Also, I feel like the only way LA agrees to give up Gasol is if we give them someone young in return. I think LA would want Millsap and Kanter for Gasol at minimum, this would allow them to trade to trade Bynum if Kanter fulfills his potential.

Great big men rarely fall off that greatly past their 30's, unless they have some kind of major injury.
