Paul Millsap on the trading block

We have a month to see how Fav n Rudy work together. Let's wait

Nope. Did the whole talented yet undersized PF/Center thing from 07-2010. It got us nowhere in the end.

If you think all Millsap is is some undersized, under skilled hustle guy, I'd like to introduce you to most of his career at this point.

?

Millsap would get a lot more uncontested/open shots in our system than he's been getting in ATL this year. I'd bet heavily that his efficiency would increase here, fwiw.

Weird. The Hawks are worried about losing him for nothing, and might trade him. Wow, what a crazy idea. Thats not very smart. You are supposed to let all your assets walk for nothing.

Signed - The Jazz FO

Unless you think the hawks are in tank and rebuild mode (they are not), this is a totally bogus comparison.

I think Millsap is an expensive rental at this point. He'll be looking for a big payday on the open market and is too old to be a core piece moving forward. While there's a number of valuable assets that I'd be willing to commit to doing that for a playoff run, the Hawks probably wouldn't be interested in parting with him for less than a premium price.

Depending on the cost, I wouldn't mind looking at Korver as a dead-eye shooter off the bench. Jazz are pretty stacked depth-wise, but we know that Quin is a big fan of him. I could see him finishing his career in a similar fashion as Steve Kerr.

Agree. Hindsight is wonderful, though. Jazz let youth take over and "tanked" in the process. Yes, Millsap is good. But Favors is much better defensively. Someone should have told the Jazz that Favors would have injury problems a few years down the road and that a little known French center would emerge to supplant Kanter.

Surely we could trade Favors for something better then a half year rental of Millsap assuming the front office decides Favors doesn't fit.

But Paul would resign. No reason he wouldn't as he likes the area and the coach. Favor's is just on the books for another year anyway and has proven himself to be much more prone to chronic injuries and time missed. I'd do this deal in a heartbeat. #15 on the SI preseason poll compared to #37. (No Burks for Korver though).

I personally don't think front offices care about preseason player rankings for SI. Based on his age, if Favors is healthy and playing up to his potential, he's the best choice. I don't think the Jazz should look at trading Favors (or Burks) until after Hayward is back in the fold. After that, anything should be on the table.

Agree here. I'd be willing to bring on Millsap, but it would be as a fairly obvious rental and we wouldn't give up Favs or Burks in the deal... I'd basically be willing to do an uneven trade with our capspace (assuming Hill has declined an extension) saving ATL some dough and I'd likely be willing to include the GSW pick. They probably say no but that is what I'd give. Toronto would likely give more (and they should).

The other assets need to stay in tact in case we lose Hill, Hayward or both.

That was not the point the point is Millsap is dang good an we let a top 15 player go for nothing. Love to have him back in a Jazz Jersey.

Sports Illustrated had him as #15 best NBA player in last offseason. With Sap Jazz have a top ten (Gobert) a top 15 a top 20 (Hayward) two top 25 (hill an Hood) to start plus Burks Mack Ingles Boris Whithey Joe killer bench.

I think that team could scare GSW who has 2 of the top 5 players in NBA plus top 15 (Draymond) top 20 (Klay) an veteran Iggy.

Two bad shooting nights an Jazz best GSW.

I'm not entirely sure that hood is top 50 atm, let alone top 25 haha. Hill probably isn't either, until he can healthily sustain his level of production.

I've been reading that hawks are asking for insanely high returns for millsap, and it'd be probably more than we would be willing to offer for a rental.

That was in an era where a giant sized Bynum, Gasol, Odom front line of the Lakers dominated the league. There are no teams like that today.

There could be one from Utah, that is, if everyone gets healthy and we don't trade away defense for offense.

Why would he resign? We are not giving him the most money, and we are unlikely to guarantee him the starting role, (even with Favors gone, Lyles is likely to surpass Millsap as he ages). So again why would you assume he would re-sign? If he leaves you trade Favors for nothing.

Except that neither Favors or Gobert are as skilled offensively as Gasol Bynum or Odom.

I actually might do an Exum, Diaw, Burks, for Thabo and Millsap. So much of our issue has been with Diaw and Lyles (sadly) replace our garbage minutes with All-Star minutes. Millsap is a much better fit in the starting lineup than Favs or Diaw.

I'd think long and hard about it if Atlanta would do that deal. Salary wise losing Burks and Exum's salary for next year clears up about $15M. The challenge would be talking Favs into coming off the bench and having Hill, Hayward and Millsap be FA at the same time.

It is really kind of intriguing. in the new CBA with shorter contracts I think you have to take a few chances like this.

You'd trade a top 5 pick that's barely played 100 NBA games for a player that may very well amount to a 45 game rental?

Good grief.
