Penn State Pedophile Controversy

very sad situation all the way around

made worse today perhaps by reading the transcripts and having the "advantage" (not the right word at all) of those details

I really would like to know what Penn State officials may or may not have been told back in 1998, and what influence they may have used to hush things up at that time. Apparently Penn State is unique in that it is one of the few state institutions anywhere that is exempt from having to keep records of meetings and stuff. (trying to find a link, I just read this in the paper)

edit:
Unraveling who knew what in this case could be difficult at Penn State, which was exempted in 2009 by the state from disclosing most records.

Unlike most publicly funded schools nationwide, Penn State is required only to release an annual tax form and the salaries of its directors and highest-paid employees. Information such as meeting minutes, emails and text messages are exempt from release.

The timing seems suspicious - CYA perhaps?

Wow.... One nasty rumor just started circulating around. If this is true.... Wow, this makes the situation just 100x worse...

https://www.mediaite.com/online/loc...erry-sandusky-pimped-boys-out-to-rich-donors/

Mark Madden, a local sports writer for the Beaver County Times, said on a radio show this morning that he had heard that a new development was going to break and that it involved the man at the center of the scandal, Jerry Sandusky, “pimping out” young children to “rich donors” of his Second Miles Foundation for troubled kids.

Joe Pa seems delusional to me.

Maybe it's the weight of the moment, the emotion, etc. I've never coached at a school for 46 years and had hundreds of kids and media members cheering my name on my front porch. But his comments last night sounded as if he were high... Or drunk... Or just delusional.

Then he did the, "Who are we? Penn St!" Chant?

Seriously dude?

Do you not realize what the hell is going on around you?

You gives a F about football or Penn St right now?

People all around you are losing their careers and will shortly be sent to face legal prosecution and possible prison time. Young boys, were raped because of your lack of fulfilling your moral obligation. Your legacy as not only a football coach, but as a human being, is being shredded as we speak. There is a possible nasty *** rumor going on of these young people being used as commodities to rich donors. This all happened under your watch Joe! Where were you???

Do you offer any remorse? Do you show any real concern? Do you show that you understand what is going on around you? People are going to prison. Hell, YOU should be going to prison. As should your assist. coach who is somehow still on your coaching staff who witnessed the whole locker room incident.

Does he know what's going on?

Nope, just another, "Oh man, you guys are great! And by guys I mean girls too! Study hard. Tomorrow is another day. Who are we? Penn St! Oh and uhh, pray a lil for those victims."

Seriously?!

One thing that's not been mentioned, to my knowledge, is the timing of all this. It just happened to come out the week after JoePa broke Eddie Robinson's all-time wins record. I find that to be more than just a coincidence.

I honestly only think he cares because it's affecting the football program.

No one understands this because no one here went to Penn State or lived in State College. JoePa is Penn State.. from academics to sports to the city. I am struggling with this as I have always looked at JoePa as the coach that anyone would have loved to play for. He should have went to the police but didn't.. easy and said.. but how in the HELL is it ok to keep the Grad Assistant on Staff when he saw it happening as a 22 year old and just left.. didnt call the police but called his dad. Then waited until the next do to go to JoePa? How is that any more acceptable vs. JoePa passing it up the chain of command. I am not trying to justify the firing of JoePa with this.

I guess I just feel bad for JoePa and feel bad of course for the kids that were troubled. Lose lose situation however you look at it

It blows me away that students would riot to protest his being fired. That is kinda like a riot in favor of child molestation. Very strange.

I am struggling to understand how anybody can feel bad for Joe Paterno! Serously he's a football coach who deserved to be fired. This whole mess is sickening and the only people I feel any sympathy for is the kid victims. Any respect Joe Pa earned over the years is gone. He covered the *** of his school and himself over doing the right thing for kids who had little chance to do something for themselves. I will hold him in disdain from here on out and he deserves no better than that.

Reverence should be held for victims and the people that try to aid the victims. Nowhere in this equation does football even ****ing register.

However, am I shocked that Pennsyltucky is acting like Pennsyltucky? Not really.

I do understand it. Don't tell me I don't. I simply can differentiate between right and wrong and make decisions like an adult makes. That is, unless it comes to porn. Then all bets are off.

I'm pretty sure my dad wrote JoePa a letter about 40 years ago and Paterno wrote him a semi-lengthy one back. Gotta ask him.

To think of all the mass shootings that occur and that it didn't occur last night in College Station is a bit of a letdown.
