As its production run, it was hailed as being the most technologically advanced road-going sports car ever built and the harbinger of the future of sports cars: it was one of the first high-performance vehicles to use an all-wheel drive system; it provided the basis for Porsche's first all-wheel drive Carrera 4 model; and it convinced Porsche executives of the system's viability so well that they chose to make all-wheel drive standard on all versions of the 911 Turbo starting with the 993 variant. In 2004, Sports Car International named this car number one on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1980s.

I'll admit to not giving two craps about cars, but I can appreciate a good looking vehicle if I see one -- that Porche seriously looks like something out of a Low Book Sales commercial.

It was based off rally-sport racing cars porsche developed in the early 80's and carried the body style and much of the engineering with it. It was their experimental vehicle, kind of a full-production prototype, even though they never built very many of them. Much of what we have in modern sports-cars is owed to the engineering in the Porsche 959. Here is a production model and the rally-sport version for comparison.

I am sure I'd love that car if I were a short guy, but at 6'7" I could never fit in there.
