What's new

Players the Jazz need to go after that we can realistically "acquire"

If we were to offer Butler a max contract, is there any way the Bulls don't match?

Maybe if they don't want to pay the luxury tax but that would be stupid because a)they have a shot at a chip and b)they are just going to be over the tax limit for one season. So no, there is no chance at all...

Rose, Noah, Gasol...maybe? **** it. Do it. And do everything in our power to get Mudiay.

Mudiay-Exum
Butler-Burks
Hayward-Hood
Favors-Booker
Gobert-Kanter

EFF THE LT!!!

The writing is on the wall. The Jazz look to be set up at several positions:

Center - Gobert
PF - Favors (as long as he can play beside Gobert and I LOVED what I saw last night!)
Small Forward - Hayward
Shooting Guard -
Point Guard - Exum will be there in 1 - 2 years

I left Alec off the list on purpose. I think that we become a MUCH deeper team with Alec Burks coming off the bench playing the 6th man roll a la Manu or Crawford. I feel like Kanter is going to be a very good PF in the league, but that his position is replaceable as a back up 4. If Kanter wants to play that roll for the Jazz, great! But he will have to sign for less money to make it possible. Besides we could use a deep threat 4 in this offense.

So, I am of the opinion that the team will ultimately seek out a starting quality, deep threat 2 or 3 to play along side Hayward. I think that Kanter and Trey become very tradeable assets who could help us fetch a starting 2 or 3 perhaps. Trey would be a very good backup point but I doubt he wants that.

That being said, I made a list by looking at the top 50 - 2s and top 50 - 3's in the league and the names that stood out that I would want on the team and that could make us deeper AND that would be potentially available was pretty short.

Wes Matthews - Good luck getting him back from Portland
Jimmy Butler - Not going to happen
Batum - It's Portland again... doubt it
Dwayne Wade - My choice since he is on a team that is going to drop off...
Giannis - pipe dream
Bradley Beal - see above
Danny Green - Not sure he is an upgrade at the position from Burks long term
Tim Hardaway - The only player that the Knicks SHOULD want to keep
Stauskas - Sactown doesn't want to dump a lottery pick in the first year!
Gerald Henderson - Nice player in my opinion and possibly available.
Ben Mclemore - Needs a player development coach - we have one - possibly the best option
Kentavious Caldwell Pope - Not sure he's an upgrade again, but sweet shot. Detroit probably don't want to dump him since he's one of the few they probably need to keep.
CJ McCollum - Again... Blazers doing a deal? Ha! That's like dealing with Beelzabub himself...
Luol Deng - Interesting
Draymond Green - That would be GREAT in my opinion, but again good luck
Harrison Barnes - Possible
Tobias - Good Luck
Shabazz - Good Luck being the best player on a terrible team he is over prized

OR

Draft a back up 2/3 and train a la Rodney Hood to be the starter and bring Alec off the bench. Probable...

It will be fun to see how management moves forward, but I don't think we are in a rush at this point.

No way we get Butler. He is Bulls' best player. I would really like Tobias Harris here. Would be a perfect fit with Hayward.

Jazz don't have a max slot available UNLESS they renounce the rights to Kanter and Booker. It's not about the LT, the Jazz have to fit an offer under the cap. With the emergence of Gobert, I can see the Jazz trading Booker (Favors and Kanter get more time at PF). But I just don't see them giving up on a 22 yr old who is showing real improvement. Not with his size and offensive talent. Jazz need 3 man rotations at the bigs and wings and 2 PG's (or 3 guards and 2 SF's if they have a a combo guard). Gobert, Favors and Kanter are a potentially dominant trio of bigs. Hayward, Burks and Exum give Utah 3 of their 5 at the 1/2/3 spots. Hood might be a 4th. There are several directions Utah can go (SF, SG or a combo guard).

In terms of a FA, I think their best shot might be Demarre Carroll. Either convince him to be a 6th man or promise him a starting position, move Hayward to SG and bring Burks off the bench. Then upgrade at PG by replacing Trey with a "3 and D" player. Perhaps a starter for 1 season who then becomes Dante's backup.

C- Gobert/Kanter
PF - Favors/Kanter/Draft pick
SF - Carroll/Hayward
SG - Hayward/Burks/Hood
PG - Vet (trade or FA)/Exum/Neto or draft pick

I'd like to see us get Kyle O' Quinn and Cory Joseph. Both are restricted and both teams have ample cap space, but may not want to use it on those guys. Kyle would be a great complimentary 3rd big. Cory could replace Burke and hold the bag for Dante until he's ready. Both are youngish vets and are realistic targets.
