Playoffs!!!!!

We may have lost two draft picks tonight, but watching the team genuinely excited and proud to be in the playoffs took that sting away - at least for tonight.
My thoughts, exactly.

Watching the post-game interview with Big Al made me happy the Jazz made the playoffs. He was so happy.
And Favors grew up last night.

Granted, Gortat and R. Lopez aren't exactly all-star caliber, but the Jazz bigs had a great game. And Jefferson had some very good passes out of the double teams. I'm thinking no bigs get traded. But why did it take until the last 2 weeks of the season for Corbin to try the Favors, Jefferson, Millsap combination?

With possibly no picks, maybe KOC will have to use the Memo TPE to get another wing. Then the Jazz can possibly pick up a PG with the GS pick next season.

I would actually consider Gortat at least a top 10 center. He is a pretty good player and we completely owned him last night. Lopez is as soft as a big man can get though.

Well, we'll have a 57% chance at the GS pick and we have a LOT of space for Burks, Kanter, Favors, Hayward to improve their games. I'd love the 8 or 9 pick, but we'll live without it if we don't get it.

Great work from the Jazz last night. Favors showed us why he could be an all-star some day and Big Al was ridiculous down the stretch. I feel more connection with this Jazz team than any I can remember.

I wanna see Kanter and Burks get 30 minutes against the blazers. Blazers are starting thabeet and giving babbit and flynn significant minutes for god sakes....

This team has definitely trampled on my expectations. Can't see them getting far against the Spurs, but you never know.

We have strong big men, for sure. I think we need a better point guard, though. I like Harris, but he's more of a shooting guard. Five assists a game for your starting point guard is unacceptable. Tinsley runs the team better, but Harris is more explosive offensively. Just seems like we need a stronger backcourt if we want to go deep.

Harris for stretches in that game played some of the best point guard defense I have seen. He was picking off Nash's passes as they were leaving his hand which is pretty tall task. Combine that with Big Al getting out and playing hard on the pick and roll and this could be a good team in the playoffs.

You do have a point about Harris' defense. The deflections don't show up in his statistics, but I think he's a little better defender than DWill ever was. My complaints are mostly about how he runs the team. Both of our backups do it better.

You want to complain and complain about GS tanking tactics yet your angry that Utah didn't out tank them in that game?

Since when have I complained about GS tactics, dimwit? They did what they had to do, as they were going nowhere with that current team. As usual, you're just a nimrod makin' **** up.

For all we know it will turn out better in the long run for us anyway.

Yeah, just keep sticking your head in the sand, with the rest of the sheep. We'll see where this team is in a year. If they prove me wrong, I'll be happy to eat some crow. I doubt you're the type to do the same. Guys like you always run and hide.

There are so many variables that it's just stupid to keep claiming that we would have been better off throwing our ethics in the toilet while telling our players that not only are we willing to cheat, but we're happy that our cheating cost them a trip to the playoffs despite their awesome finish to the season.

Meh, I've never suggested losing on purpose. Corbin's questionable substitutions have cost us several games. All I'm saying, is it could have had a profound impact on the team's future, had we done that in a GS game or two, instead of Toronto at home. As for you being ashamed, judging from your posts, I doubt you're bright enough to have picked up on something like that anyway.

Like I already said, I'm very happy for the players, as they have earned the right to be where they are. Unfortunately, the logical side of my brain still forces me to look at the situation with complete objectivity. In order to take the next step, this team needs an upgrade in personnel more than they need a few extra games at the end of the season. I'm really so very sorry for people like joebagofdognuts who can't handle reading the truth.

This has been the Debbie Downer report.

GO JAZZ!!!!!

you know we didn't exactly "lose" those draft picks right?

"T'Wolves receive the Utah's 2012 first-round pick (lotto protected in 2012 and top 12 protected in 2013, and Minn has option to swap picks in 2014 if Utah pick is 10 or lower. Otherwise Minn receives 2nd rounder.) (Darius Songalia trade 09-09-09)"

- This one is gone anyway, unless you really want us sucking for 2-3 more years.

"Jazz receive the Warriors' 2012 first-round pick, via Nets (Marcus Williams trade) (top 7 protected in 2012 and 2013, top 6 protected in 2014. If not received by 2014, Jazz will instead receive Warriors' 2014 and 2016 second round picks) (Deron Williams trade 02-24-11)"

- Still top 7 protected in 2013, top 6 protected in 2014.... chances are the warriors are still going to be out of playoffs and picking between 5-13, still a good chance to convert this pick within the next 2 years.

Oh and, unlike most teams that barely made it to the playoffs, we actually have a lot of good young pieces around and chances are we'll finish even better next year. I'm genuinely excited for our young players to play a 4-1 series against the Spurs, one round of playoffs will do wonders for our young players - look at OKC from 3 years ago to now.

You're assuming that the draft would certainly provide excellent pieces, or that all decisions regarding the pick would shake out for the best. Your logic is making conclusions about things which you can't be sure about anyway.

No, I'm not. I'm assuming we would have a lot more flexibilty to improve the team, whether we use the picks in trades, or kept them, or a little of both. I don't see how that isn't obvious. Anyway, like I said, if this team can get past the first round next year, I'll eat my crow.

I would have liked the pick but we are in the playoffs so I have no more interest in talking aboutwhat might have been. Mainly I wanted to comment on the bolded part. Next year will not be this same team. I'd say up to 5 guys will be replaced. (Miles, Howard, Bell, Tinsley, Ahearn, Carrol, Big Al and Harris are all realistic possibilities to be gone)

The playoff experience, even if we get beat 4-1, etc., is worth it to me. The confidence, the game preparation, getting rid of the butterflies for some of the guys, etc. It makes a really big difference, I believe.

So this year's #8 or 9 pick gives the Jazz more "flexibility to improve the team" than a top 6 protected GSW pick? The #14 pick in this year's draft is more flexible than next year's first round pick? Jazz have the same amount of assets regardless of how the draft pick situation worked itself out this year.
