Please state your case for Gobert as a starter

right now there is none - besides his occasional highlight moments, The Jazz as a team do virtually everything bad with him in the game. Gobert needs to add strength (particularly hand strength) develop an 8-12 foot offensive game and then we'll talk about starting.

I will say the foundation and attitude are exciting - but he's 1-3 years away.

Thanks. I agree.

Jazz's offense seems to stall every time he's on the floor. He needs to play with the 2nd unit a bit more, get that 'catch' right. He's turning it over way too much.

OH and we need a scoring PF next to him - may be when we got Millsap?

+/- per game stats...this is the best I know how to do...

The bigs
Gobert -4.25
Kanter -1.5
Favors +0.25
Booker +5.25

The wings
Burke -2.25
Hayward -2.0
Hood -2.0
Novak -2.0
Ingles -1.0
Burks -0.5
Exum +0.5

Obviously time played is a factor here which makes guys like Gobert, Hood, Kanter and Ingles look even worse.

Still want to pull the neg train? N00b.

Did you really just quote me from another thread that was done over a week ago and completely out of context? Jackass

To answer your question, absolutely. You're a fool if you don't get excited over Rudy, and "like" him. We were talking about players you like the most, and how can you not like rudy? He is full of potential, plays with a lot of fire, and has a great attitude. Whats not to like?

takes more than potential to make me a fan of a person.

run back to your cheer practice. ****in fanboys.

Ok, I'll make the case. I didn't really want to, but, challenge accepted.

I think we could use Gobert in the starting lineup in place of Favors. And Booker in place of Kanter. Go with a Booker/Kanter combination that should work out pretty well with Booker's outside game and Gobert in there to provide defense and rebounding. By starting these two for 4 or 5 minutes you take a lot of pressure off Favors and Kanter to avoid foul trouble. Either will be much less likely to pick up that dreaded 2nd foul if they are only playing 7-8 minutes in the first quarter.

This also allows Favors/Kanter to see a little more time vs. opposing teams 2nd unit giving them some early confidence in games.

Heck, I might even take it one further and start Exum. As he seems to have a little more chemistry with Gobert getting the lob up for him to flush.

So, there you go...

Exum/Burks/Hayward/Booker/Gobert to start games. It would be a short stint out there to be sure, but, it would probably be somewhat effective and do a lot to help Favors and Kanter stay on the floor for the remainder of the night.

There isn't a reason yet. Gobert is not ready to be an NBA starter.
He does have a chance to be a really good backup Center and be big on the 2nd unit.
At the beginning of the year everyone was hoping he'd be in the rotation and get a set of steady minutes to grow his game. He's 22 and will get better throughout the season, but not as a starter.

Gobert is not ready. Booker however I could make a case for. Mostly because the guy playing in front of him has been horrible so far.

Solid post filled with common sense. You will now be lambasted by those with an agenda of trolling.

He improves our defense. I'd rather sacrifice some offense to have really good defense.

Gobert is bad ***. He should be playing a lot right now.

If I have to pick which player I want on my team today, out of Kanter and Gobert, it's easily Gobert for me. And for the long term, it's easily Gobert too.

He's still too light to establish any post position. Due to his height and poor hands, it's difficult to throw him bounce passes in pick and roll situations. There's just no way to make him useful on offense yet.

If gobert can score inside and pass like joakim Noah, he will be awesome. Until he develops a bit though, he's not a starter.

As one of his biggest fans - and I could go back to the draft thread when I advocated taking him and said he would be the biggest steal of the draft - I cannot make a case for him starting. Gobert is still very raw. He does not have the skills to compete against starting 5's yet. As a rookie last season, he only played in about half the games and averaged less than 10 mins/per. I think he is being used perfectly right now by Snyder. Play him in all 82 games and let him have all the backup minutes behind Favors, which will be 15-18/per.

Love him, but he's not ready yet. I'd be all for starting Favors and Booker, then bringing in Gobert and Kanter with the 2nd unit. With that said. . . I really hope that Snyder tries all sorts of combinations this season. I'd like to see what really does and doesn't work with the lineups available.
