Um, no.

I'm not a big fan of pardoning convicted murderers who then escape from prison, only to flee to one of our country's biggest rivals. I just read a few articles about the whole situation, and it does stink to high heaven, but she lost out on my sympathy when she escaped and fled. I think the fact that the FBI has her on the list still is very telling of what really happened, or may have happened since. Remember, she was essentially in bed with our enemy and had pure motivation to get back at the USA. The Feds aren't going after her because of the NJ cop, that much is almost certain.

It's one thing to want equality for black people, which all people deserve, but this petition is ridiculous.

If she's really a terrorist, pardoning her would be a way to get her to come back to the US for questioning.

A bad conviction is a bad conviction, regardless of how worthy you consider the person convicted.

I don't understand your first point. Not even a little bit.

As for your second point, I agree. It does sound like a bad conviction, and in light of what has been going on in the last six months (not to mention 40ish years), I find it hard to swallow that the only reason she's "wanted" is because of the NJ cop. I imagine the rabbit hole is deep and full of twists and turns with this lady.

This case is notorious in NJ - Shakur is at worst a cop murderer and at best an accomplice to a cop's murder. Did NJ Prosecutors stack the deck against her - possible. Fine bring her back and try her again because there's no getting around the fact she was where she was and what was the end result.

I was not aware that simply being at a location where police were shot was a crime. The term accomplice suggests she aided her husband and/or Acoli in some fashion. Harper (the trooper who survived) says he didn't see her with a gun. In what way did she aid her husband or Acoli in the shooting, in your opinion? Is her simply being there enough?

During the last trial, a state assemblyman addressed the jury directly, urging them to convict. That alone should be enough to declare a mistrial.

The more I read about this case, the more it stinks. It might be the backfire effect.

As for being on the terror suspect, she's been in hiding for the last several months because there is a rather large bounty for her.

The only reason listed for Shakur's (listed as Chesimard, because even the dignity of choosing her own name is denied her) presence is the turnpike shoot-out and subsequent escape.

Meanwhile, according to wikipedia, every other attempt to convict her failed for lack of evidence and/or a violation of due process.

E. J. Wells, what did you mean by "what has been going on in the last six months"?

Well, there was a shoot out and she fled the scene. She was in a car which she knew had illegal firearms. I could go on but the bottom line is the petition calls for a pardon....which is laughable - she should be brought back to jail and then she can go through the legal process.

There is a stellar song called "A Song for Assata", by rapper/actor Common.

Like, one of my fav songs ever. Ma boi Cee-Lo Green got the hook. So gud bros.

She was shot, not in self-defense, and fled the scene. She probably knew there were guns in the car.

I'm divided about the pardon, myself.

I think you mean confirmation bias.

Yeah I read your links.
