The Jazz need a new point guard. Do the Jazz need a pass-first pg ala Marshall? Do the Jazz need an aggressive scoring pg ala River? Or do they need someone else? Please take a side.

Put me on the Rivers Bandwagon. Harris is not a pass first PG but he can't shoot consistently from outside either. At least if the Jazz had Rivers running the point, defenders couldn't go under the screen every time because Rivers would make them pay. If they go over the screen then Rivers takes it to the rim. That sounds like a much better situation to me.

Marshall sees the floor better than anyone else. I know that he will find players when they are open, but the Jazz seem to struggle to get open right now. If defenders go under the screen I would cringe every time he takes that shot. If defenders go over the screen, I just don't have the faith that Marshall has the speed or athleticism to get to the rim and finish.

I voted Rivers. I know it will be the minority. Hear me out. We have no proven shooters. Marshall doesn't score. Marshall doesn't shoot well. Yes, Marshall is a GREAT passer .. but to what?

Rivers has the biggest 'it' factor in this draft, bar none. (I hate Duke)
We need shooters (right?). I truly believe Rivers can play point (at a HIGH level) in the NBA .. but even if I'm wrong (I'm not) he can atleast stretch the d and play with passion and poise.

Holy **** it's not even close for me. (For THIS team) Marshall could be the ideal candidate for a team laden with shooters.

The Jazz are sorely lacking in shooters and even if you add Miller I don't think it is enough.

After watching some of the UNC game today, I went with Rivers. Marshall's jumper basically bounces harmlessly off the front or the side of the rim, never rising above it. He can fix his shot, like Eisley did, but I think that with Rivers the Jazz would have the potential to have top-tier/superior talent at every position on the floor. Players like Hayward, Burks and Q. Miller, whom I also hope we draft, can move the ball well enough. If you look at last year's finals between the Heat and Mavs, neither team was using a traditional PG to run the offense, but instead using both guards as initiators, shooters and distributors. The Jazz aren't particularly a good passing team right now, but they're suffering even more from a lack of versatile scoring threats. With Rivers, Burks, Hayward, Kanter and Favors on the floor, anyone can beat his man, and they would pass well enough to run plays.

Awesome post. Repped.

I am really interested in hearing what Cy has to say about this.

Allow me to impersonate ..

Marshall is the best PG I've seen in a while. His pin-point passes are stellar. Having said that, I also agree with anyone else (regardless what they believe) that Rivers could be great, and others as well.

This is a real good point too.

Does anyone know how Rivers moves without the ball?
Scale:

Ronnie B- 5
Hayward- 3 (4 when he's aggressive)
Miles - 1 (0 when he's have a Chucker day)

Great question. He's similar to JJ Reddick .. a 10 .. at least 9. Answer is yes.

Ummm...the scale was 1-5.....I thought Ronnie B's offense came only through the cuts he made.
