Pleiss

Bump

The Utah Jazz are expected to make a significant attempt to bring big man Tibor Pleiss to the team next season, the SL Tribune has learned.

Offensively I really like what I see. One of the best things Gobert learned in his 2nd year was the keep the ball high and go up with it quickly.
This guy does it consistently. Seems like someone who can finish which is huge.
Decent soft touch.
I wish there was some video on his defense and his pick and roll D.
He seems slow footed. But hard to tell from a highlight video.
10 minutes a game will work.

This is a blog on Pleiss from 2010:
https://thepaintedarea.blogspot.com/2010/06/intl-draft-prospects-first-round.html

An average athlete for a center in Europe, but probably a subpar athlete for NBA. However, moves well enough that he shouldn't be a major liability.

The strength of his offensive game has to be his jump shot. Showcases a nice balanced jumper that he can take out to 18 feet. Looks like he could be effective in pick/pop action in the NBA.

Solid pick/roll defender and a terrific shot-blocker (2nd best in Bundesliga). He seems to recover well to get many shots from behind. Excellent rebounder.

Tibor is definitely a few years away from being NBA-ready and have to imagine he will be a stash pick. Not sure he's starting-caliber center in the NBA but has the skills to be at least a quality reserve. If he works on his post game and his body, a starting spot could be in his future because his shooting, rebounding, shot-blocking and hands are already quality.

Again, this is from 2010. Since then Pleiss has put on weight. I don't know what else but I assume 5 years of ball he has to have gotten better. But this 2010 scouting report gives us reason to be optimistic.

Scouting report on Pleiss circa 2014:
https://basketballscouting.wordpress.com/2014/08/01/tibor-pleiss-scouting-report/

Standing at seven-foot-two and currently listed at 269 pounds, the German center has very decent mobility for his size. By age 24, that has translated best on his ability to finish out of the pick-and-roll, where he excels at an elite level. Pleiss is a good screener who looks to draw contact and whose large frame makes it difficult for defenders to navigate around his picks. He dives to the basket very fluidly, has soft hands to catch the ball on the move, is able to score through contact and can play above the rim as a target for lobs (25% of his points from the field in the Spanish league were off dunks). Pleiss ranked second in the Euroleague in scoring at the rim, finishing his 125 attempts at a 66.4% clip but while averaging 9.2 points at the basket per 28 minutes played.

Holy crap.

I think he probably comes over. I know he was willing after the trade, but the Jazz said no. Would be nice if we saw him in summer league, but I doubt that happens.

If the Jazz dont sign this guy, It's pretty confusing. Anyway Pleiss is either taller than 7'2 or Tomic is shorter. check this team photo.

He's consistently a 80% and above FT shooter too.

Listening to Lindsey on 1280 on Friday. It sounded like Jazz were planning to meet with tibor, or his reps, this week. I got the impression that tibor would be here this summer, I don't know if that meant for games or just working out.
