Goon and ESPN are reporting that Jakob will return next year. Utah will be very good. Should make it back to the sweet 16, if not further. Big get for Larry K. Earning his new contract.

Good for utes, alittle bad for the jazz. Poeltl was projected ahead of their lottery slot.

Who else steps up? Because for a team that was so heavily Delon Wright dependent this year, repeat sweet 16 seems like a tall order. You guys going to play small ball with Isiah Wright and Taylor in the backcourt? Move Taylor to being a more ball dominate point guard maybe? And I think Bachynski is a bigger loss than his stats indicate. He was a nice fill-in big. I haven't checked out your new recruits yet though.

Utah will be a better team next year. Delon was incredible but this team will be very talented and experienced. Also, Larry's K's ability to develop big men will be huge. Here's my projected lineup/rotation:

Wright/Taylor
Taylor/Tucker
Chapman/Loveridge
Reyes/Kuzma
Poeltl/Olsen

We are two deep everywhere. We did lose Delon, but we will have a much better Poeltl, Chapman and Kuzma. Two 4 star kids and a possible top 5 NBA pick.

Isaiah Wright is 6 ft 2 inches. Taylor is small, but if you move Chapman to SF, then Utah's front court is huge. 6-8, 6-9, 7-0. Plus your backup guards and SF are 6-5, 6-6, 6-6.

Taylor is small, but Utah isn't small.

Chapman is gonna beast.

Taylor and Tucker too.

Poetl was the team last year. Hopefully he gets a lot better offensively, especially from the FT line.

Great news! Should be more of a focal point of the offense, last year you never really knew what you'd get from him on a game by game basis. He got pushed around a bit, so this off season good chance for him to get stronger.

Larry K. was on 700am last week and he mentioned that if Jakob returned, there was a good chance they would tweak the offense to run through him more on the low post. If he picks up where left off in the tourney, Utah could possibly be as good or better than they were last year. Depends on the development of the supporting cast.

And how huge is it that Larry K has managed to keep 2 NBA first round picks from entering the draft in consecutive seasons? Dude is epic.

I doubt he is keeping them. He is probably encouraging them to enter the draft more than he is staying (or at least, I hope he isn't that selfish).

Wright was possibly a 2nd round pick prior to last season, after returning, he's improved his stock to late teens, early 20's pick.

Jakob is still a very raw 19 year old that finished strong, but failed to have the same impact game in and game out. He can benefit from another year playing under a coach that develope big men.

How very selfish of Larry.

Big difference between a 2nd and where Poeltl was projected. As a Ute fan, I'm glad he's staying, but he's gambling on not getting injured with millions of dollars. Stupid bet, and anyone who advised him it was a smart move was definitely not giving him good advice. Obviously we don't know what kind of advice Larry gave him, and I believe most coaches would give their players an honest assessment of the pros and cons, but these kids have lots of people in their ear who have the best interest of the college in mind when advising them to gamble on losing out on the chance of a lifetime.

A team that can't create their own shots losing the only guy that got them shots. They will not be better unless Chapman makes some huge strides.

The flip side to that argument is the fact that we've seen so many raw, unrefined, big men make a premature jump to the NBA thanks to the old adage: "You can't coach size". I've always been of the opinion that rawer prospects are better off refining their game at the college level as opposed to trying to learn from the bench in the NBA.

Is Chapman really a 3? I know he's a wuss in the post, so you probably don't want him hanging around the basket, but that's not enough of a qualifying skillset to play the 3.
