What's new

Pope is a socialist

I don't know how others see fostering pedophilia (yes, he has been indicted on direct involvement in protecting priests and simply giving them new congregations to molest), there isn't a way to turn that into something I'm okay with. Catholics that are awake agree. As are Penn State fans that are awake.

Not being a dick here, but can you provide me with a link? I just spent 15 minutes reading up on the sex scandles during Benedict XVI's papacy and don't really see anything like what you're saying.

I believe NUMBERICA was referring to activities Ratzinger engatged in before he became Pope.

Even then, I'm not really finding anything bad. I see a lot of mistakes that were made, not just by him, but by the church as a whole, but I also see efforts to rectify those mistakes, and to make sure they don't happen again.

Perhaps I'm reading things wrong?

I'm not familiar enough with the details to personally pass judgment. Some people think Ratzinger helped covered up pedophilia and protected priests who committed it.

And Colton, that is single-handedly the worst neg-rep I've received. You want to go to bat for someone because of their title, then go for it, but I'm calling it shameful.

"In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children," the Pope said.

"It was maintained — even within the realm of Catholic theology — that there is no such thing as evil in itself or good in itself. There is only a 'better than' and a 'worse than'. Nothing is good or bad in itself."
Good guy. Guess what guy it is.

'But guys, Paterno didn't rape any kids.'

What a worthless post.

That article is six years old, and is reporting that the Pope faced claims, not that he did it. Like I said before, it looks like mistakes were made, and he is trying to fix them. I don't think this is anywhere near the Penn State scandal.

Wow, a random quote without citation or context... MUST BE TRUE!

You're right. The scope of the catholic church sex scandal is easily in the tens of thousands.

You're seeing the report and not the content. This is how the church handled thousands of documented reports of abuses. To which he was directly involved.

I'm not denying the scandal, or its horridity (is that a word?), but I fail to see how he was directly involved. On the contrary, I am finding it hard to find any evidence of him being involved other than trying to rectify the problems the scandal caused.

Again, I could be way off base, which is why I asked you to provide some linkage or proof -- what I got was a, "But guys, Paterno didn't rape any kids." I'm ready to be proved wrong.

The bottom line is, as much as you might not like him, for whatever reasons, you can't deny that he has helped millions of people worldwide over the years. He has dedicated his life to improving the lives of others. I have a hard time when a random innerweb guy who wears skinny jean cut-off shorts calls him a piece of ****. That being said, I don't really like The Pope either.
