What's new

Preseason Game 1: Utah @ Portland, Monday Dec 19th, 8pm MST

Most of Kanter's wild/bad shots including the turn around jumper came with little time on the shot clock. Kanter definitely will take some time to adjust to the athleticism of NBA players but he can rebound already. I was pleasantly surprised about his rebounding. He should play over Memo if you ask me.
Kind of like Millsap his rookie season. Paul earned minutes by going after all the loose balls and getting put-backs. Then he worked every summer to add another dimension to his game. Kanter looks o.k. for a very young guy who has barely played in a game in 1+ years. Maybe it won't happen right now, but I definitely think by the deadline the Jazz should find a trade for Jefferson. AS for Okur, maybe his expiring has value. Outside of that, just let him come off the bench in garbage time and then realize the salary savings next season.

I also don't think Kanter has a "lack of moves". His footwork was nice at times. He just has no leaping ability. He makes a good move, and then can't explode like
Favors. This may always be his biggest weakness.

Its the help defense that gets him every time. He usually makes a good enough move on his defender to get an easy shot at the rim every time, that's actually pretty remarkable for a 19 year old kid..

I think its safe to assume tonights starting lineup will not be the starting lineup come opening night for the jazz

When he learns to hit the open man out of those double teams he'll take a big step.

I wouldn't worry about kanter not being athletic like favors. He is going to be good. He and favors will complement each other. Kanter will play like a taller scola. He will figure out how to get shots off quick underneath the basket. And be a offensive rebound monster.

scola without the girly hair tie?

I'm hoping for Kevin Love. Too much?

Couple more observations:

- Gordon Hayward's size and athleticism is an advantage at the SG, but not as much at the SF. Hayward and Luke Babbit were playing one another to a virtual draw, and Gordon didn't seem to have as many opportunities to create.

- The Jazz completely lack an identity, like they have no clue who on the team they can build around, and they're rotating too many players. They didn't really commit to Jefferson when he was in. They didn't really go to Favors early in the shot clock either, which is a no-brainer.

- It's very difficult to develop chemistry, spacing, timing, etc. when there are too many players and a lack of continuity.
