Presti discuss about our young bigs at Harden Trade

I would have done either Jefferson or Millsap combined with Burks and the GS pick.

Maybe the Jazz were close to a trade and Harden informed the Jazz he wouldn't sign an extension.........

You would not have traded either Kanter or Favors straight up for Harden (assuming he would resign)? To my mind, anyone who wouldn't do that is crazy. Or you just wouldn't have included Hayward?

I would nt have. Milsap or Jeff with hayward or burks and MAYBE a pick is the most I'd have given up.

EVERYONE:

It doesn't matter what Harden wants (unless he's a lunatic, which he's not), he'd be a RFA and if the team he is on is willing to pay, he's theirs.

I think we'll see Harden's true value now that he's on a horrible team, and not playing with two superstars.

I was thinking about this, too, actually. It's a very similar package to what Houston gave them.

This. I believe Locke pointed out a game in preseason when Harden was the only big name that played and he shot something like 7-27. I don't remember what it was exactly but I do remember it was bad!

I would have happily packages either Kanter or Favors in a deal depending on what else was involved. It obviously depends on assurance that Harden would resign, but if you had that assurance you'd trade either of our young big straight up for him. In that scenario, it only depends on what else they would want. I'd be very tempted Kanter/Hayward, turn down Favors/Hayward.
Kanter and Hayward for Harden? You are a fool. OKC would have taken that deal in a heartbeat and they would have been the runaway winner of that trade. Wow, I'm glad you are just a guy on the internet and not someone who has a say in how this team is managed.

Jazz nation disagrees with you, because we are out of alignment with the universe.

You are one of the few people with balls big enough to say what needs to be said, as usual.

From what I've heard this is a moot point as it's been said that Presti didn't "shop" Harden around the league. Same thing with what KOC did with DWill. Neither GM wanted to "shop" their star because they didn't want word to get out, which would result in disgruntled star mixed with a media frenzy blitz. Both GMs decided to go to a team that was DESPERATE for a star knowing they could make a deal, with the mindset to get as many legit assets out of them as possible.

Yes, provided said team is also willing to deal with any poison pills, and willing to risk his leaving as a UFA a year after that. Houston would obviously like to avoid Harden even getting to RFA.

James Harden is a sure thing -- All Star, Top 10 player in the game who is genuinely worthy of a Max Deal. We don't have a single player like that. Even if you think one of our guys will become that, you definitely take the sure thing. Hayward's a solid pro, nothing more. Kanter's more iffy, but I'd take the risk that he'll blow up to lock Harden down as a cornerstone player.

I would be violently ill if KOC turned down Sap/HaywardorBurks/GSW pick for Harden, Aldrich, filler. If Jefferson's salary somehow worked in that package and it was turned down then there's a good chance I start rooting for another team.

Harden isn't risking 4 years of salary by taking a one year deal to get out of a franchise where he is THE MAN. Utah would have had no problem retaining him, especially if it didn't cost Kanter or Favors.

B.S. for GM of the year.

The possibilities that could have been Kanter, Favors, Ma, Beardsanity, Mo.

Poison pills? What are you talking about? If Houston is willing to pay the max (they are), Harden is theirs. If Harden turned down an offer sheet because he was getting $6 million less than his market value (he was), you can bet he wouldn't turn down $10 million (foregoing his raise to become a UFA). To my knowledge, only one player has ever done that, and that's because he was getting low-balled by his team (Ben Gordon). I am confident nobody has done what you're describing (a player getting a max offer with restricted free agency leaving 8-digits on the table, never to be re-seen, just so he can become a UFA).

But you couldn't have just forgotten that restricted free agency exists and are now back-pedaling, right?

Being the 3rd best player on a team that has 2 top 10 players in the leauge will allow you to look pretty good and be extremely efficient. Now the science experiment begins. Take away the 2 All NBAers, increase the minutes and let's see what happens. My guess: he puts up more stats, but is much less efficient and Houston improves only slightly (see Williams, Deron and Nets).
