I agree to some extent, but all you have to do for a Smiths card is fill out a small application with bogus info, like I did. Even if they were tracking me, I have no problem if they know what my buying habits are and they want to send me coupons based on the stuff I already buy. Sounds like a win to me, but whatever. Stacks of worthless ads and coupons might be your thing.

It's not that they are tracking me personally. That's not what it's about, It's customer number 56734 buys chocolate bars at 3am on Tuesdays and condoms at 6pm on Saturdays and does his shopping every other Wednesday. As statistical analysis progresses they will be able to strategically place and price items on the fly. I see them going with electronic price-tags soon and having a computer tell the store manager to place such-and-such an item in the back of the store in the mornings then that same item near the entrancement in the afternoon then take it off the floor completely by the evening. Meanwhile you'll get your special deals texted to you giving you 0.50 off the condoms value pack when you buy a chocolate bar at the same time.

Not saying it's going to hurt anybody, but the possibility of them playing on subconscious triggers is there.
 
Ohh, but my really real issue is that I hate adding more crap to my wallet. I use a front-pocket wallet and I want it to be thin. I don't want to tote around a Smith's card, a subway card, a cafe rio punch card, a great clips card, a beans and brew card, a koles card, a target card, a every place I shop at a card. I want to carry my DL and debit card
 
I love having a credit card from target, hotel chains, mechanic shops, Amazon, toys r us, best buy, rc willey, and about 25 from the mega-banks. If I ever flip out having a mid-life crisis then I'm going to divorce my wife and blow through $250k on cards like a king, then walk away leaving a bankruptcy court to sort through the mess.

No joke but I know a guy that completely emptied his joint bank accounts except for like one months bills, called his wife and said "I'm moving to Brazil to marry a girl I met online. I emptied the bank accounts, everything else is yours. Have a nice life." Left like four kids at home.
