What's new

Quin Snyder is the new coach

I know the resume, but I wish I knew more to really have an opinion. Next year is officially another year of discovery.

I'm not sure about this hire. Snyder torched the Missouri program and there have been a ton of rumors about him. He's a smart cookie, but man, they hated his guts at Missouri. I have confidence in DL, but if he goes off the rails like he did in Missouri, the Millers won't put up with that.

Good stuff.

Is he a defensive specialist? I know less about him than any other name that has been brought up.

Not a specialist along the moulds of Thibs, I don't think. But that doesn't matter to me. Quinn is a smart dude, and I'm sure he's savvy enough to hire an assistant who can bring defensive systems to this team if he lacks the knowledge himself. I love hearing about his willingness to bring Messina over ASAP. Scared the Lakers might snag him away from us.

Snyder is def the stand out if that group of 4... He seems crazy smart!!!

I like the hire!!

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I'd rather have Messina as top dog.

Same. Going into the coaching hire, I was mostly feeling: "Pls pls pls hire Messina-- but if you don't, then I'm only interested in Snyder and no one else".

So in one sense I'm bummed, but I think it won't be bad decision at all in the long-run, and I'll be pretty amped if Messina joins him as lead assistant.

From what I recall, Quinn Snyder was Ettore's assistant at CSKA. So they have a connection in that aspect, and it makes sense that Snyder would want to pull him over form Europe. Shows that he's smart, and knows his meat & potatoes. I like that.

Snyder also has a JD, and an MBA. History with the Spurs, impressive D-League record, etc. Much better hire than the other coaching hires we've seen this season IMO.

I really REALLY hope we bring along Messina now though. Ugh.
I'm still underwhelmed by this hire. I think that they should have been bold and just hired Messina outright. I'll be happy if they get him as an assistant, but I fear that it will be to help get him the NBA experience he needs for another team to be bold about hiring him.

I'm encouraged that he seems like a very detailed oriented coach, but I'm not sure I love this move. He was definitely the best of the top four coaches identified as finalists.

Finally, a dude with some fire. How many technicals did Corbin get over the last two years? There probably were some, but I don't remember a single one. Looking forward to someone who gives a damn and let's the refs know it
