Raptors giving the NBA a clinic on perimeter defense. Jazz should #takenote

The jazz’s perimeter defense really broke down this year. While some of that was personnel, most of it was scheme. The raptors have been absolutely incredible schematically and in their discipline.

I hope this guy breaks down the Raptors offense at some point. That’s also been drool worthy.

He’d already done a vid of the Raptors’ offense. Very good stuff.

We can’t copy what the Raptors are doing. Nor should we want to. Gobert is a unique talent that warps a lot of these ideas. But, on offense, we can and should take a lot of cues here about how to build actions with him in the dunker’s spot (something we only saw a little of this year... very little). Rudy can get better here, too.

But we should also get someone like Christian Wood to backup Rudy, and then put some 5-out stuff in our arsenal. And he would also help with defense. Speaking of defense....

On defense, I’m very convinced by how Toronto is guarding the pick and roll + how they are closing out on 3 point shooters. We should adopt both of these things as soon as play resumes. Well, I’m actually convinced by Nurse’s entire philosophy of perimeter defense, tbh. Having Gobert makes it easier to commit to it, tbpfh.

They also play in the east and the east is ****
They have a 16-8 record against the West... and that’s despite having a ton of injuries to guys in key spots. That’s a 0.667 win percentage, btw.

so, try again, brough.

At lease half of those wins are against the worst teams in the west, 2 wins a piece against the Kings, Suns, Timberwolves and the Pelicans, so I'm not sure what this tells us. I guess they can beat teams they should beat... which is something the jazz have struggled with for years. I would just hesitate to believe that any NBA team in the east has anything "figured out", let alone putting on any clinics.

I’m listening, but you’ll have to break down when they got wins against the suns and pelicans, in particular. There were moments in this season when getting those wins were not easy, especially on the road.

And I get the sense that you aren’t taking full account to how many key players have missed a lot of games to injury. And how the system is able to plug-and-play through all of that.

overall, there’s not really much room to doubt what the Raptors are doing.
